Track is cyclical on Lopez, going from more than 20 athletes in 2010 and 2011 to fewer than 10 this year. Chalk it up to graduations, injuries, cold weather, fate.
Rain or shine, when golf season comes around, Richard Têtu is ready for action.
Têtu has been the golf coach for the past ten years. His commitment, generosity and passion for his players and the game of golf have helped many develop their skills in the game of golf.
Racers were welcomed to Lakewood, Wash., with cold 34 degree temps, snowing, and glassy waters at Western Washington University’s Lakewood Regatta, Saturday, March 17. Light winds started to fill around 11 a.m. and 18 FJs and 11 Alphas sailboats began racing. Winds and temperatures built throughout the day to around eight knots.
Lobos basketball players and a coach from Lopez Island received accolades and were selected for the 2011-12 Northwest “B” All League Teams.
Hard work, dedication, and skill led the Lopez Island Girls Basketball Team to the regional game Saturday, Feb. 25, a game that would determine whether or not they were headed to State.
On Feb. 9, Lopez Island girls basketball team defeated Highland Christian , 55 to 33.
Lopez Island girls Basketball Team defeated Highland Christian, scoring 35-3.
Lopez varsity girls basketball team defeated the Lummi girls 35-31. The Lopez boys basketball team lost 42-34.
The Lopez girls varsity basketball team lost to Grace Academy, 35-32.
The Lopez boys beat Grace Academy, 47-34.
This 2011 season, the Lopez football team was awarded the John Trotto Sportsmanship award. A special trophy presentation by the football officials board will made Tuesday, Jan. 24 between the girls and boys basketball games vs Grace Academy around 6:15 p.m., at the Lopez School Gymnasium. All the football players and parents are invited to be in attendance for this honor.
The County Council is completing the General Section of the CAO update. This section covers Mitigation, Reasonable Use Exception, and Nonconforming Use. The latter two are pretty straight forward legal issues, mitigation is not.
Both boys and girls basketball teams fell just short of pulling out wins against the Grace Academy Eagles on Dec. 9.
The Lobos Football Team ended this season as the Pacific Coast League “B-8” Football Champions with a 9-1 record and participated in district playoffs.
