The signs of spring are everywhere; which means that now is the time to sign your co-ed softball team up for Island Rec’s summer league. This is a 9-week summer league, with games played on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, for women and men 15 years and older. The cost is $350 if your team registers before April 30th. After April 30th the cost is $375. Practices will begin on May 3rd. Registration forms are available at the Island Rec office on Guard Street or online at www.islandrec.org. A mandatory coaches meeting will be held April 30th at 5:30 pm at the Island Rec office.
Barring snow or ice, The Soggy Bottom golf tournament will be held Sunday February 8th. A Hospice fundraiser, the four-person scramble features cash and other prizes donated by The Galley Restaurant and Sunset Builders Supply. The Galley will supply snacks and refreshments for the day.
The story of athletics on Lopez Island is usually one of the underdogs going up against much bigger and better funded schools. Our home teams have certainly had to learn the character building-lesson of playing with heart and dignity against overwhelming odds. So it is with great pride that I share some of the successes of this year’s high school soccer season.
