Adams: Fair and balanced | Letter

Steve Adams is the best choice for port commission position #2. He has a firm grasp of airport operations and understands the economic benefits for Lopez. He understands the need for the port to be able to handle emergency flights and to be able to function in the event of a catastrophic situation.

Adams for commissioner | Letter

We have known Steve in a number of different capacities since we moved to Lopez in 2003. Since long before that time, Steve has been serving Lopez in more ways than we can count – as a schoolteacher, a firefighter, a member of the County Planning Commission and most recently, as a Lopez port commissioner.

A safe and well managed Lopez Airport contributes immeasurably to the quality of life on the island. It’s easy to take for granted, but closer analysis identifies all the benefits it provides.

Questions about water district | Letter

I went to the Journal’s website. When I clicked the search items for legal notices regarding the Mackaye Harbor Water District Proposal the links are blank. It seems strange that notice was given, if indeed notice there was, in this paper instead of the Island’s Weekly, distributed to every Lopez home.

Response to fire chief column | Letter

Before retiring, I was an open heart surgical assistant and research assistant in a prominent heart research center, so I have the background to say the following: The death Mr. Ghiglione cites in his recent article, while tragic, was not necessarily due to a five-minute lapse in treatment.

OPALCO, clean up this mess | Letter

Thank you OPALCO for placing a huge strain on some of us and destroying the trust in “our” co-op for many of us. I sometimes feel Enron didn’t die, it has returned as a Phoenix rising out of the Salish Sea.

No Conflict of Interest | Letter

In his recent letter, Bill Wertz envisions the worst. His allegations of my having a conflict of interest have no merit. He jumps to the erroneous conclusion that I knew what the future would bring.
