Calling all volunteers, be a part of the party.

It’s time to delve into getting the Lopez Community Fireworks off with a bang. Now in its 24th year of providing Lopez Island with a pyrotechnic display, the Lopez Community Fireworks Association is looking for volunteers to ensure the show will go on.

The display that lights up Fisherman Bay every July 4 comes to the community in no small part thanks to countless hours of volunteer labor. The Lopez Community Fireworks Association is a 100 percent volunteer organization.

The organization is currently looking for volunteers in several different areas. There is something for everyone to do and the jobs come with some benefits. Volunteers should email Dawn Lease at needle@rockisland.com, go to www.lopezfireworks.com or leave a message at 468-2816. A few areas in need of volunteer help:

1. Float decorating and parade marchers

Duties: July 3– decorate trailer, decorations will be provided.

July 4-March in the parade collecting donations along the way.

Pay: A great barbecued Salmon lunch at the community center complete with great live music.

Benefits: Plenty of fresh air and exercise as well as meeting some great people along the parade route.

2. Fireworks salmon barbecue

Duties: July 3– help set up the BBQ area at the community center. Fetch some supplies as needed. Fourth of July–decorate, more set-up and fetching as well as serving, cooking, cleaning up and other chores. July 5-help finish take down and clean up

Pay: A great barbecued salmon lunch at the community center complete with great live music.

Benefits: Lots of fun, meeting old friends, and making new friends.

3. July 5 clean up

Duties: Arrive at Peninsula Road Otis Perkins Park 8- 9 a.m. with the objective being to make the area look like fireworks never happened there.

Pay: Coffee and sticky bits with beach front dining

Benefits: Plenty of early mornings exercise lots of fresh air and participation in a great group activity.

4. Selling of fireworks T-shirts/sweatshirts/hats

Duties: From now until the July 5, help sell the fireworks shirts at the chamber office or other locations.

Pay: You can wear a red fireworks volunteer shirt, and one free barbecue lunch at the salmon barbecue on July 4.

Benefits: Interaction with the public as well as some exercise and fresh air.
