This year sees the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Although its official date is April 22, this year Lopez will celebrate it a little early.

The Lopez Island Conservation Corps (LICC) invites you to join in what has now become a global environmental movement.

LICC is sponsoring an island-wide clean up in collaboration with the San Juan County Land Bank, Washington State Parks, San Juan County Parks, the Bureau of Land Management and San Juan County Public Works.

This Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. the group will focus on beach and plastics clean up, roadside litter removal and public park maintenance and clean up. Meet at the Village Park right next to the Red Apple Lopez Village Market for registration at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Bring a sack, lunch, water, working gloves, weather and work appropriate clothing. The group will rendezvous again at the Village Park at 2 p.m. to combine all of the collected waste. A group photo will be taken before the trip to the Lopez Transfer Station for free disposal of the trash. If you are cleaning your own private beach join the group at 2 p.m. at the Village Park to combine your waste collection and enjoy free disposal at the transfer station.
