Lopez Salmon Barbecue

Get ready for the Lopez Salmon Barbecue, which directly supports the fireworks effort! Happening after the parade on the day of the Fourth (Saturday, 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.), Lopez Community Fireworks wants to remind everyone that tickets to the Salmon Barbecue can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce, which will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Adult tickets are 18.00 and children’s tickets are 10.00 and hotdogs will be available for them. The chef’s special is the delicious barbecued salmon, served with a variety of salads from local restaurants and hot garlic bread warmed over the grill. Watermelon, coffee, and a variety of beverages will be available as well. Proceeds from the barbecue go to support the amazing display of fireworks that the volunteers develop for the island community’s viewing pleasure.

Jim Scripps, many years ago celebrated the Fourth of July by shooting off fireworks from a “rock” just off Charles Island. The population of Lopez would flock to the south end, in the area of Richardson to view the fireworks. While not necessarily artistic, it was a great deal of fun. With Jim’s passing a little over 23 years ago, three people got together and began to organize a group to do the fireworks display for Lopez Island. They kept the fireworks on the south end, and then decided to move the display to Fisherman Bay where more people would be able to view the show. It began small and has built up year after year, to what it is now.

The Chamber of Commerce also has Lopez Fireworks T-shirts and Tour de Lopez T-shirts in a wide variety of sizes, as well as pullovers, available for 22.00 and up. Stop by at the times listed above to procure yours today.
