Here’s your opportunity to learn more about them and grill them on the issues.

The Islands’ Weekly will host a forum for the sheriff candidates Sept. 29, 5 p.m., at the Port Stanley School house.

The format is simple to allow for as much interaction between residents and the candidates. After a five-minute introduction by the moderator, each candidate will make a five-minute opening statement. Then, the forum will be open to questions from the audience. Each candidate will get one minute to respond. At the conclusion, each candidate will make a five-minute closing statement.

The Journal of the San Juan Islands is sponsoring a sheriff candidates forum on Sept. 28, 5 p.m., in the San Juan Community Theatre’s. Gubelman Theatre. The forum will not be in Mullis Center as originally planned.

The Islands’ Sounder will host a forum for the sheriff candidates on Sept. 29, noon, at the Eastsound Fire Station.

All candidates for Congress, state House, sheriff and County Council have been invited to forums scheduled by the League of Women Voters of the San Juans.

— Oct. 15: 1:30-3:30 p.m., Shaw Island; 6:30-8:30 p.m., Friday Harbor.

— Oct. 16: 10 a.m. to noon, Orcas Island; 4:30-6:30 p.m., Lopez Island.

Meet-and-greets

In addition to participating in candidate forums, Johnson and Nou are scheduling meet-and-greets this month and in October.

Johnson and Nou attended the Waldron Community Meeting on Sept. 11.

Nou attended a Luncheon/Meet and Greet Sept. 14, noon, in the China Pearl Restaurant, Friday Harbor. He attended a Luncheon/Meet and Greet Sept. 15, noon, at Boardwalk Cafe, Orcas Island, followed by a “Thank You, Orcas Island” Barbecue at 5 p.m. at 120 Buck Mountain Road, Eastsound.

Johnson will attend a Luncheon/Meet and Greet Sept. 22, noon, in the China Pearl Restaurant, Friday Harbor. He will attend a Luncheon/Meet and Greet Sept. 30, 12:30 p.m., at Boardwalk Cafe, Orcas Island.
