Spring arrives at Hummel Lake

by Dan Silkiss, Friends of Hummel Lake

Our resident Trumpeter Swans honked a fond farewell to their winter haven on Hummel Lake.

That’s our signal to prepare for the Friends of Hummel Lake annual cleanup on April 4 and 5, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and April 18 and 19, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Pack your landscape tools, lunch (beverages supplied by Friends), plenty of sun block, ideas, and short and tall tales.

Park alongside Hummel Lake Road.

You can donate your time or cash/checks to Friends of Hummel Lake, a non-profit (501c3).

Many Lopez volunteers are often joined by other islanders as well as local and state agencies, including Land Bank, Fish and Wildlife, Ecology, and more.

Roy Moore advised that the Lion’s Club will again stock those big Rainbow Trout in mid March.

Grandpa John will supply fishing rods and as usual instruct the youngsters in the fine art of angling.

Adults are also welcome should they wish to refine their casting skills.

Dwight Lewis spread a load of gravel to fill in the pot holes, and Bob and Debbie Dunn will later have their Weed Harvester in action so that we can enjoy weed-free fishing, swimming, meditation, or whatever your heart desires.

Looking forward to a sunny get-together while we beautify our lake for all to enjoy.
