Thanks to a transfer by donation from the Lopez Village Association, San Juan County Parks is now the legal owner of 1.35-acre Lopez Village Park, preserving the land as a park in perpetuity. The park is situated near the Market in the heart of Lopez Village, and provides open green space for day use with picnic tables, restrooms, and coin-operated showers. The property is valued at $262,000.
The BLM is preparing to make improvements to the facilities and parking area at the Watmough Bay Trailhead, and is seeking public comment on the Environmental Assessment, (EA) of the proposed plans. The project area is on the southwest side of Lopez Island.
The San Juan County Public Works Department will hold an informational open house about the proposed Fisherman Bay Road improvement project that spans from Military Rd. to Hummel Lake Rd. in the basement of the Lopez Fire Hall on Thursday, Feb. 21 from 1:30 to 5 p.m.
The Lopez Island Family Resource Center is offering a four-week class for adults and teens outlining day-to-day management skills to help cope with stress. “Easing the Burden of Daily Stress” runs four consecutive Mondays from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Lopez High School, starting Feb. 25. The course is free of charge.
Sue DuMond’s blossoming “Home on the Grange” series started last March. Since that time, she has held eight shows at the Lopez Island Grange Hall, offering everything from a string band to folk songs to rock and blues.
