The results of the first Lopez Energy Challenge will be announced on Dec. 16, 5 p.m. at the Lopez Library.

Islands Energy Coalition in collaboration with OPALCO and Lopez Island Library invite community members to come hear energy stories and meet the winners of prizes in the different contest categories.

The challenge was given to the Lopez community this fall. Residents had to see how much energy they could save in their homes. Participants in the competition monitored their electricity usage by reading their utility meter weekly.

Prizes for those who saved the most include Solar-powered reading lamps, a Smart power strip, SNAPSHOTs (whole-house energy assessments) one-hour professional home performance consultation gift certificates.
