Pastel painter Steven R. Hill’s new art works are the highlight of Kennedy Publishing’s new ‘‘Best of America Pastel Artists Volume II’’ book.

Hill is an award winning plein-air landscape artist who resides and paints in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. He makes annual extended painting trips to Europe and especially enjoys working in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy and Croatia where he teaches annual 10-day painting workshops.

In the catalog of the 24th annual Chelsea International Juried Fine Art Competition, Hill was described as, “working in the traditional method of plein-air painting,[his] works on paper have the vital, effervescence of the outdoors. Beautifully capturing the subtle nuances of natural light, Hill’s paintings incorporate lush, organic colors with sumptuous textures and energetic gestures. Using pure pigment pastel as his medium, Hill’s works have a characteristic softness that lends itself perfectly to his chosen subject matter.’’

The ‘‘Best of America Pastel Volume II’’ features 123 outstanding American artists in a beautiful two volume soft cover book. The works of each featured artist are displayed over two full-color pages and includes their contact information and gallery representation.

The book is an important edition to the American art world because it goes beyond deceased artists and “masters” to showcase outstanding living artists who are creating a vast array of stunning, imaginative and innovative artwork.

The company has published 16 previous books and has promoted over 1,500 artists to art enthusiasts, museums and galleries across the United States.

Kennedy Publishing is slated to publish 25 new ‘‘best of’’ books over the next 9 months.

“So many brilliant American artists have not received the consistent national exposure and recognition that there work so richly deserves – we hope in some small way our books help change that,” says Adam P. Kennedy, publisher and co-founder of Kennedy Publishing. The books are sold exclusively on-line at www.Bestofartists.com
