Procession of Species Brings New Life to Lopez

On Saturday April 30, Lopez had its first annual Procession of the Species Celebration. The Procession is a creative way for people to celebrate their relationships with community and with the natural world. Over 100 people turned out for this event with fantastic costumes and artful representations of the vast biodiversity of life on earth. Together the species danced in all their unique ways through the streets of Lopez village, finishing with a potluck and species boogie with music by Los Tres Hermanos.

The Lopez Island Conservation Corps (LICC) organized this event, with sponsorship from the Prevention Coalition (LIPC) and Earthbound Productions. Organizers Amanda Wedow and Charlie Behnke hope to make this an annual celebration. For more information contact l.i.c.c.team@gmail.com.
