The San Juan Preservation Trust and the Lopez Island Public Library are co-hosting the documentary film “Green Fire! Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time,” on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 6 p.m. The film screening will be held at the Library and is free of charge.

“Green Fire!” is the first full-length, high-definition documentary film ever made about legendary conservationist Aldo Leopold and his environmental legacy. Green Fire shares highlights from Leopold’s extraordinary career, explaining how he shaped conservation and the modern environmental movement. It also illustrates how his conservation ethic extends to both people and the land, and how it continues to inform and inspire people across the country and around the world.

In conjunction with the film screening, the Preservation Trust and Library encourage community members to read A Sand County Almanac, Leopold’s memoir about the development of his personal conservation beliefs. The text was published posthumously in 1949 and remains to this day a classic for conservationists internationally. A Sand County Almanac is currently available at the Lopez Island Library.

Immediately following the screening on Jan. 12, audience members will be invited to share their favorite passage from A Sand County Almanac.
