The coming election for the new three members of the county council is one of the most important elections in the last few years.
Mike Carlson deserves our thanks for questioning Ms. Byers’ veracity concerning her philosophy of government. By doing so, he afforded Ms. Byers a wonderful opportunity to better inform the voters about her organizational experience and true philosophy of governance.
Jamie Stephens deserves your vote for the San Juan County Council. He has proven by his public service to date that his judgment and perspective extends to all the islands. But it is his breadth of interest in so many different facets of our island communities that makes him a stellar candidate.
Please join me in voting for Jamie Stephens for County Council District 3.
I support Lovel Pratt because of her proven record of working for all islanders. Her work for the Lopez solid waste solution was critical.
This year the Lopez Children’s Center will celebrate its 10th Birthday!
In about three weeks our ballots will arrive in the mail. We will have a county-wide election where we will elect three county council members, each of whom will represent the entire county (going back to the system we had five years ago). Everybody in the county will be voting for three candidates, one from each of the three residency districts.
Jamie Stephens used to tease me every summer and say, “Well, what is my Summer Sandy project this year?”
Every Friday night, the children of Orcas Island have a treat in store for them.
I want to share with you my very positive experience working with Rick Hughes for the past five years. We serve together on the Orcas Island Farmer’s Market board. Most of the board is made up of farmers and crafters who vend at the market. Rick is the exception.
I don’t usually write letters to the editor nor do I take a public position on candidates for office. But I am making an exception for Lovel Pratt because I have worked with her for many years in a broad variety of venues and never failed to be impressed with her thoroughness, community commitment and willingness to just do the work.
I am writing in support of the Lopez School Construction Bond proposal that will be on the ballot in April. This bond will cover a campus-wide renovation of both the elementary and high school.
I urge you to vote for the campus wide renovation Bond on the April ballot.
