Since the inception of the Home Tour over 20 years ago, it has taken many different forms. Initially, it was an in-person tour with over 100 volunteers creating the event. In the fall of 2020, it switched to a virtual format, which has become a wonderful alternative to keep this fundraiser alive and thriving.
This year, we are adding a new twist, and we’d like you to join us. Lopez Center is hosting a launch event for the virtual tour on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. It will include an art show featuring artwork by the homeowners, a viewing of the tour on the Center’s big screen, a chance to meet the homeowners and videographer, and refreshments. The event is free thanks to the generous Home Tour sponsors who make the tour possible!
And don’t worry, if you are unable to attend the event, the virtual tour will still be online for the following week. “One of the really sweet parts about having a virtual tour is now people with a connection to Lopez can be a part of the Home Tour even if they aren’t able to make it on island,” shared Assistant Director Robert Harrison.
The theme this year is Lopez Artists, their homes and studios. Videographer Ken Kortge takes us into six homes and studios of Lopezian artists. We get to hear about their lives, art and connection to this wonderful island. Featured on the tour this year are Peter Cavanagh and Ann Vandervelde, Pat and Pete Kuentzel, Coral Sumner Lehtinen, Steve and Judy Hill, Lynda and Dean Anderson, and Bob Wood.
The launch event is on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. at Lopez Center. More information about the tour and other events at the Community Center is available online at www.lopezcenter.org.
