Derek Cram attended Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, graduating in 2018 with a communications studies major and a Social Entrepreneurship and Business minor. While in college, he had an internship at Heller Brothers, a business run by the late Steve Heller, a Lopez resident.

Cram then worked for three years at Northwestern Mutual Insurance, familiarizing himself with the financial services industry. He is now employed as a Financial Advisor with Portland, Oregon, based Financial Reserve, a financial planning firm. Portland gives him access to mountain skiing, and he also enjoys creating electronic music and reading about naval history.
