Help San Juan County update transportation plan for elderly, disabled and poor

Submitted by San Juan County

Over the next two months, San Juan County Health and Community Services staff are undertaking a process to update its coordinated human services transportation plan originally created in 2010 and updated in 2014.

The plan was developed to address the transportation needs of the elderly, people with disabilities and low-income populations in accordance with the criteria of the Washington State Department of Transportation. Following the creation of this plan, San Juan County has coordinated and developed innovative community transportation programs to meet the needs of the geographically isolated rural county, the most successful of which has been the transportation voucher program.

One component of updating the plan is gathering community input. There are two ways to participate and provide your input and experience with specialized transportation in San Juan County. The first way is to take our community survey by visiting https://tinyurl.com/HSTPsurvey.

The second way is by attending a community outreach meeting which has been scheduled on each island. The meeting date is 1:30-3 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 15, Lopez Family Resource Center conference room.
