Harassing ex-husband, victim of a Volvo and stolen plate swap | Sheriff’s Log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s office responded to the following calls.

Aug. 23

• A Lopez deputy cited two motorists for speeding on Mud Bay Road.

• A deputy spoke with a Decatur Island resident regarding a dispute with a neighbor. No law enforcement action was required.

• A Lopez Island woman reported that a male made her feel uncomfortable when he repeatedly showed up at her workplace and made unwanted advancements on her. The male was contacted and agreed to cease and avoid her work places.

• A Lopez Island couple reported that someone had attempted to scam them out of money in a telephone ruse indicating that their grandson was in jail and they needed to post his bail. No money was sent and their grandson was found at his job site.

• An Orcas Island resident reported that her wallet was stolen.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a juvenile runaway.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a citizen dispute. The deputy contacted both parties.

• A Lopez Island deputy responded to a burglary after an island resident returned home to find things different around the house. The house was checked and no intruder was found inside.

Aug. 24

• A Lopez deputy located a wanted person at a boat ramp who had two local warrants. The subject was taken into custody without incident.

• A wanted person was seen in Friday Harbor. The subject was contacted, arrested and booked into jail, pending a court hearing.

• A Friday Harbor truck driver was passing the library when an older blue Volvo station wagon pulled out striking his right, front wheel, damaging the bearings. The Volvo did not stop and headed north on Beaverton Valley Road. The truck driver got a partial license plate number.

• Deputies responded, along with Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife officers, to a boating accident with injuries in the area of Spencer Spit State Park on Lopez. A victim was flown to the mainland for treatment and a boating accident report was taken.

• A detective received a phone call from a female who wished to report an unwanted advance she received from a male subject at the San Juan Island Hostel.

• An Orcas Island deputy issued a verbal warning to a driver from British Columbia, Canada for failing to stop at the stop sign. It was later discovered that the car’s license plates had been stolen and replaced with stolen plates from another vehicle.

Aug. 25

• A Lopez deputy took a theft complaint involving a ferry ticket exchange.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a one car collision on Obstruction Pass road and found that the driver was driving under the influence. The driver was arrested for DUI and the case forwarded to the court.

Aug. 26

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of an order violation. The deputy was unable to prove that the violation took place at this time. This case is still under investigation.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of an unwanted person at a hotel and removed the person from the premises.

• An Orcas Island deputy cited a vessel moored at a county dock after dark.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a juvenile runaway.

Aug. 27

• A Friday Harbor citizen reported receiving harassing texts from her ex-husband. She stated he had moved away, wanting nothing to do with her and their daughter, but was now sending threatening texts about taking the daughter. The victim just wanted it reported, pending an anti-harassment order.

• Deputies recognized a subject in Eastsound who was believed to have a felony warrant out of Mount Vernon, Washington. The male was contacted and was confirmed to be the subject. He was arrested, transported and booked into jail in Friday Harbor.

• A Lopez deputy issued citations for vehicles left unattended in the ferry line.

• A deputy issued a driver a citation for failing to yield the right of way when entering the public roadway in Eastsound.

• A deputy was contacted about a suspicious circumstance. It was reported that someone has been entering the reporting party’s home while they are gone during the week. The case is under investigation.

• An Orcas Island deputy issued a driver on Olga Road a citation for speeding, not having insurance and having an expired registration over two months.

Aug. 28

• A Friday Harbor resident reported a theft of their bike sometime the night before. There are no suspects at this time.

• A deputy responded to an office in Friday Harbor regarding the smell of chemicals.

• An Orcas Island deputy stopped a vehicle on Mount Baker Road and issued the driver a citation for speeding and a verbal warning for no proof of current insurance and expired registration.

• A Lopez Island resident reported hearing rapid fire gunshots in the vicinity of the Lopez Hill Preserve. The shooter was located and was safely target shooting on private property.

•A Lopez Island man was arrested for driving under the influence after failing to negotiate a curve on Ferry Road and crashing into the ditch. The driver was alone and suffered minor injuries.

• A deputy took a subject into custody for violating an order in Friday Harbor.

Aug. 29• An Orcas Island deputy issued a citation to a driver for having a suspended license and a warning for having defective tail lights.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a theft of a bicycle. There are no suspects.

• A deputy responded to a Lopez Island residence where two former friends had a dispute over a vehicle that was moved without permission.

• A Lopez Island deputy responded to a traffic hazard complaint on Center Road where a trailer carrying a boat lost a wheel at a blind curve. The trailer owner made repairs and removed the trailer. He was issued a ticket for faulty equipment.

• Deputies responded to a residence in Friday Harbor for a possible domestic violence dispute.

• A Lopez Island man was notified by another property owner that items belonging to him were found hidden in a house being prepared for sale. The man originally reported the items stolen in a burglary in 2013.

• An Idaho couple reported that their car had been damaged in a Lopez Island parking lot. They provided possible suspect information. That subject was contacted and interviewed. No enforcement action was taken.

• An Orcas Island deputy issued a driver on Mount Baker Road a citation for not having a valid operator’s license and a verbal warning for speed.
