Thank you, Lopez islanders | Letter

Now is a good time to thank our Island community. Not too long ago, Red Apple Markets, including our Lopez Village Market, conducted their semi-annual Bag Local Hunger program, wherein the Market fills bags with almost $15 worth of non-perishable food and sells them for $10. The bags are donated to the Lopez Island Food Bank. Well over fifty bags were filled over a three-week period and everyone was purchased and donated to the food bank. The Lopez Lions Club conducts two all-day food drives per year, the Post Office carriers collect donations annually, and local churches also stock the food shelf daily, fill $10 bags on a regular basis, and collect donations. In addition, many individuals contribute to donation boxes and baskets throughout the Island all year. We wish to extend our deepest thanks and appreciation to the Market staff, the Lions Club and to each and every person who bought a bag, made a donation or contributed in any way. Thanks to all of you, we have been able to keep our food bank going as we try to provide for those in need of food, especially at this time of the year. What a generous and caring community we live in!
