Lopez Island High School track team celebrates record-breaking season

Lopez Island High School is wrapping up a track and field season marked by exceptional individual and team performances. Multiple athletes earned All-League honors.

“The track and field team had an extraordinary amount of success this year under Coach Patrick and his team of assistants. Twenty Lobo Track and Field athletes qualified for the state meet in Yakima,” said Ginger Plum, athletic director.

This year’s achievements also included a series of record-breaking performances.

“Not only did we have numerous league champions, but we also saw five new school records broken this year,” Plum added. “Ethan Patrick set a new record in the 800m run with a time of 1:57.42. Anna Fuller broke the school record in the 1600m run at 5:26.81. Rowdy Spreine set a new mark in the 300m hurdles at 43.21. Additionally, both the boys’ and girls’ 4×400 relay teams set new school records—3:36.75 for the boys (Oliver Rick, Rowdy Spreine, Andris Meissner, and Ethan Patrick) and 4:19.72 for the girls (Glory Westervelt, Ruby Ervin-McLean, Anna Fuller, and Lily Nichols).”

Boys Track and Field (All-League honors awarded to league champions by event):

400-meter – Ethan Patrick (senior).

800-meter – Ethan Patrick (senior.).

1600-meter – Rafa Velazquez (senior.).

3200-meter – Rafa Velazquez (senior).

300-meter hurdles – Rowdy Spreine (senior.).

Discus – Huck Henderson (freshman).

High jump – Silas Gronley (senior).

Girls Track and Field:

800-meter – Anna Fuller (senior).

4×400-meter relay – Ruby Ervin-McLean, Glory Westervelt, Anna Fuller, Lily Nichols (seniors).

Shot put – Betty Burt (junior).

High jump – Kylie Willamsen (sophomore).

The 2024 season was one for the record books at Lopez Island High School, with student-athletes demonstrating remarkable talent, discipline and perseverance. With a strong foundation built by coaches and student leadership, the future looks bright for the Lobo Track and Field program.
