The northwest District 1 Golf Championship was held at Loomis Trail Golf Course in Blaine on May 9th. In true Lopez fashion, and despite legendary logistic difficulties, the Lopez ladies came out on top of the seven school field. Melissa Valencia took first place, carding a 46, one stroke ahead of second place, and five strokes ahead of the rest of the field. Five other Lopez golfers— Kaileah Poole, Naeva Flora, Amelia Patino, Josie Luckhurst-Slattery, and Ana-Sophia Rempel—finished in the top twenty-five, thereby qualifying for the upcoming Tri-District tournament. Rempel had to win a playoff to land her spot as an alternate.

Scheduling snafus forced the Lady Lobos to wait as long as five hours to tee off, their rounds cut short due to darkness, with no way to catch the last ferry home. Coach Bert Bates couldn’t praise the team enough: “In spite of these difficulties the girls team ruled!”
