Maureen Ann (Hemeyer) Rogers | 1939-2020

Maureen Ann (Hemeyer) Rogers of Lopez Island, Washington, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020 in the presence of her loving daughters.

Maureen was born in 1939 in Detroit, Michigan. She married Douglas R. Rogers in 1960 and they were married for 44 years until Doug’s passing in 2004. The focus of Maureen’s life centered around family, friendship, faith and music.

Bouncing back and forth between the Los Angeles and Seattle areas, Maureen became an expert at packing up a house and integrating herself into a new community, all while raising four children. Maureen made many close friends along the way. In 1987, Maureen and Doug finally found a place to stay put… beautiful Lopez Island. A loving and devoted friend to many, Maureen was a gracious host, a shoulder to cry on, a giver of chocolate, and someone to share a good laugh or warm hug with. She gave her time freely as a volunteer in every community she was a part of. She was devoted to the Catholic church where she spent many years singing and playing the piano. Throughout her entire life, music was core to her being. Maureen performed on television and radio as a youth, taught piano lessons, led many choirs and shared her love of music with her family where “sing-a-longs” were a regular occurrence.

Maureen’s relationship with her grandchildren was a magical one. The loving bond and memories created with each one are something they will cherish forever.

Maureen is survived by her four children, David Rogers, Pamela Kinkead (Tim), Alison Riddiford (David) and Michael Rogers; eight grandchildren; her four younger siblings: Tom (Julia), Chuck, Karen & Kathleen; and a host of lifelong friends.

Never a fan of funerals, she requested no service. There will be a Celebration of Life on April 4 at the Lopez Island Community Center. In honor of Maureen, please consider a donation to Lopez Island Hospice and Home Support (lihhs.org).
