The United Way of San Juan County is recruiting three volunteer coordinators — one each for Lopez, Orcas and San Juan islands — to help the organization kick-start the United Way’s new Volunteer Program.

The coordinators will be asked to work two hours a week from August through December. They will work with board members and the director to set up presentations, assist with coordinating the Day of Caring and other community events, and may also do a bit of office work.

A small stipend is being offered at the completion of the duties.

United Way of San Juan County’s Day of Caring is Saturday, Sept. 25. The purpose of the Day of Caring is to promote the spirit of volunteerism and demonstrate how much can be accomplished with one day’s work.

“We are seeking both volunteers for the day and also ideas and suggestions for projects that need to be done around the islands,” Director Joy Goldberg said.

“This is a chance to help individuals with one time needs or to work on projects that could benefit from a day’s work. Ideas and suggestions and people wanting to volunteer can get in touch with us via our new Facebook page or by e-mailing us at unitedwaysjc@rockisland.com.”
