Transient lodging resumes in San Juan County

Transient lodging in San Juan County can now resume at 50 percent capacity. Effective immediately, San Juan County Public Health Officer Dr. Frank James revised his health order on June 3 to allow for all transient overnight lodging in San Juan County to resume, including hotels and motels, camping, moorage, and vacation rentals.

“Previously, the lifting of the lodging ban was tied to San Juan County’s move to Phase 3. There were numerous concerns about the challenges of lodging operators ramping up without adequate time to train staff, refine safety plans, clean and modify facilities in order to prepare,” a press release from the county stated. “This order aims to create a limited capacity ramp up period to ensure safe operation.”

All lodging providers must adhere to guidelines established by the county, which is available for review at https://www.sanjuanco.com/DocumentCenter/View/20504/200603-Lodging-Safety-Guidelines.

No date has been set yet for an increase in operations from 50 percent to full capacity, and county staff will monitor lodging for accountability. Should there be an increase in case volumes, the ban on lodging could potentially be reinstated, according to the county.

San Juan County requests the public wanting to report potential violators of this or any other health officer order, call 360-370- 7609 or email covid-19tipshotline@sanjuanco.com.
