The work of Lopez Island artist Sara Waugh received the Top of the Rock award from judges at the 2011 San Juan County Fair.  The award is given to one Lopez-based fine artist on the strength and merit of the art.

Sara Waugh has lived on Lopez Island since 2008. She grew up in the New York countryside. Waugh’s paintings have been exhibited in solo and group shows across the U.S. including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Oklahoma, and New York. Biological processes and aquatic life are among the subjects that currently interest the artists.

“The two pieces I have on display at the San Juan County Fair are abstract paintings from my current series, Between the Tides, inspired by the world of life under water,” said Waugh. “I am honored that my work has been selected as Top of the Rock this year.”
