The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Dec. 15

• A deputy responded to a walk-in report of fraud where an unknown suspect used the reporting person’s name and email address. No monetary loss appears to have been incurred at this time, and there are no suspect information or workable leads at the time a report was made.

• A Lopez deputy stopped and ticketed a driver for speeding, 50 in the 35 mph zone on Ferry Road.

• A deputy on Lopez was called to investigate after a property manager discovered a door standing open when checking the property. Evidence inside showed an unlawful entry had been made.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a reported noninjury crash. The driver said she moved over for an approaching emergency vehicle with lights flashing and got too far over and got stuck in the muddy ditch. No damage to the vehicle was noted. The car was pulled out by good Samaritans.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a civil dispute. One person was arrested for assault fourth-degree domestic violence assault and fourth-degree assault and was booked into jail.

Dec. 16

• A deputy responded to a report of an unsecured premise in Friday Harbor. There were no signs of forced entry into the premises and it appeared that one of the doors was accidentally left unsecured. The owner was contacted and stated they would have an employee secure the door.

• A Lopez deputy returned an at-large dog to its owner.

• A San Juan deputy completed a civil standby. It was discovered that several items were missing from the residence and the incident was documented.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a hit-and-run vehicle collision. The victims did not want to pursue the matter criminally and the suspect driver was issued citations for not having insurance and for driving left of center.

• A Lopez deputy responded to the 2000 block of Mud Bay Road for a non-injury vehicle accident. The driver drove a vehicle into a field and got stuck after failing to navigate a turn. It was determined the driver was impaired and they were arrested for driving under the influence.

Dec. 17

• A deputy was dispatched to a child abuse incident in the Friday Harbor area. The incident was referred from an outside agency. The involved parties were contacted.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a call about harassment.

• An Orcas deputy removed camping and personal property from the stage of the Village Green at the request of the sheriff. The property was stored at the Orcas substation and a phone message was left for the owner to retrieve the property.

• A Lopez resident reported damage to a mailbox that occurred when an unknown vehicle ran over it.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a man masturbating at a local business. The man left before the deputy arrived and the Sheriff’s Office is attempting to locate him. The investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on San Juan and issued them a citation for speeding 43 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone.

• A deputy responded to a report in Friday Harbor that a juvenile made some concerning statements to another juvenile. After an investigation, a report was made and a copy was forwarded to the Dept. of Social and Health Services.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of fraud regarding a fraudulent rental listing. There are no known suspects at this time.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a protection order violation. The respondent was arrested for violating an order and was booked into jail.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a call regarding juveniles smoking marijuana. One juvenile was found to have marijuana. A report was taken and information was forwarded to the courts.

• A deputy responded to a trespassing call in Eastsound. The subject had left before the deputy arrived.

Dec. 18

• A deputy was dispatched to an abandoned vehicle in the San Juan area. A tow operator turned in a failure to redeem packet for an impounded vehicle. The owner of the vehicle was issued a citation for littering/ failure to redeem an abandoned vehicle.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver was arrested for obstructing law enforcement and was issued a citation for speeding.

Dec. 19

• Deputies responded to a one-car rollover accident in Friday Harbor. Upon investigation, it was determined that the driver of the vehicle lost control of the vehicle after hitting a patch of “black ice” on the roadway. No juries were incurred and a collision report was completed.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a citizen assist.

• A deputy contacted an Orcas resident regarding a harassment problem. An investigation was conducted.

• A deputy on San Juan observed a driver known to have a suspended license. The driver was arrested for the violation.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of a theft. The reporting party stated a couple of packages were stolen off of their porch. No suspects or workable leads were available at the time.

• A Lopez deputy documented a traffic incident on Channel Road.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a sex offense. Both parties were interviewed and it was found that no crime had occurred and it was a verbal domestic incident.

• Orcas deputies responded to a report of disorderly conduct and, upon arrival, found the person had gone. Deputies later got a report that the person returned; contact was made, and the person was informed to not return to the location.

• Orcas deputies were dispatched multiple times to a local man trespassing at an Eastsound business. He was escorted off the property and criminal charges have been referred to the prosecuting attorney’s office.

• A Lopez deputy completed a collision report after a distracted driver left the roadway and caused property damage. Multiple citations were issued for various violations.

Dec. 20

• Deputies responded to a report of a citizen dispute at the post office in Friday Harbor involving a woman threatening people in the lobby and shoving a postal employee. After investigation, one person was arrested and booked into jail for fourth-degree assault and harassment.

• The reporting deputy was dispatched to a domestic incident in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy arrived and contacted the people involved and arrested one person who was booked into custody.

• Deputies responded to a burglary at an Eastsound business.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a single-vehicle collision with possible injuries. The driver had apparently lost control of their motor scooter and left the roadway. The driver was transported by emergency medical services.

Dec. 21

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident and found no crime had been committed.

• A deputy responded to a report of a theft in Friday Harbor. After an investigation, it was determined that there was no evidence of a theft, though one person was trespassed from the business.

• A Lopez deputy took a report of harassment.

• A deputy on Lopez completed two junk vehicle affidavits at the request of a homeowner to facilitate the disposal of the derelict vehicles.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a trespassing call at a local business. The subject was removed and charges were forwarded to the prosecuting attorney’s office.
