The San Juan County Sheriff’s office responded to the following calls.

Oct. 21

• A deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding near Eastsound. The driver was warned about speeding and issued a citation for not having insurance. A case for driving with a suspended license was also referred to the prosecuting attorney’s office.

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a residential burglary. A report was filed and the investigation for a known suspect is ongoing.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop on Orcas Road. The driver was given a warning for an expired registration and a citation for speeding, 60 mph in a 40 mph zone.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 45 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding.

• An Orcas deputy conducted an area check at the Westsound County dock and noticed a vessel located at the dock which had been issued numerous citations for unlawful overnight moorage before. The deputy issued the owner of the vessel a citation.

• A San Juan deputy observed a vehicle stopping on the roadway for vehicle repair. The driver was not licensed and was issued a citation for not having a valid license with ID.

Oct. 22

• A deputy responded to a report of vandalism of a car window in Friday Harbor. There is no suspect information, witnesses or workable leads. A report was completed for insurance.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 57 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for not having tail lights and for driving over the fog line. The driver was issued a citation for not having a valid driver’s license with identification.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 37 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding.

Oct. 23

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of domestic violence in Eastsound. A report was filed and the case was referred to the court.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license in the third degree and was issued citations for failing to stop at a stop sign and for not having insurance.

Oct. 24

• An unoccupied sailboat broke free of its mooring buoy during gale force winds and ran aground. A Lopez deputy along with EMS and rescue personnel responded to a report of a person in the water when the boat owner reportedly tried to save the boat before the storm subsided.

• A Lopez deputy was called regarding an attempted fraud scam call from a person representing himself as being from the Social Security Administration. No money or financial information was lost.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of stolen political signs. There are no suspects at this time and the incident was documented.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a report of a deceased dog washed up on the beach. Upon examination the animal was determined to be a raccoon.

• Orcas deputies responded to a reported assault. The investigation is ongoing.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a protection order violation. The involved parties were contacted and an investigation commenced.

• A deputy on Orcas witnessed two dogs running at -large in the 2400 block of Orcas Road. Neither dogs had dog licenses; they were taken to the Orcas Animal Shelter.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for a defective headlight. The driver was issued a citation for not having a valid driver’s license with identification.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped a vehicle for displaying license plates on the front and the back that did not match each other. The driver was issued a citation for not having a valid driver’s license with identification, and no proof of insurance.

Oct. 25

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for not displaying a front license plate. The driver had the plate inside the vehicle on the floor and was issued a citation for not having proof of insurance.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a parking complaint at the ferry terminal. A vehicle was illegally parked in a handicap parking stall and a citation was subsequently issued.

• A deputy on Lopez was contacted regarding two young children lost in an impenetrable wild rose thicket. Power tools were used to cut through and reunite the kids with their parents.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for squealing its tires when accelerating from a stopped position. The driver was issued a citation for not having proof of insurance and warned about tire noise.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for driving without lights on when required at night. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license in the third degree and issued citations for driving without required lights and not having proof of insurance.

Oct. 27

• A deputy responded to a phone report of a citizen assist in Friday Harbor. A 72-hour warning sticker was placed on a vehicle that was parked in front of the caller’s house for a month and a trespass letter was prepared for the vehicle’s owner. The letter will be served when the person is located.

• An Orcas resident reported receiving a fraudulent telephone call asking for her social security number.

• A local resident suspected a juvenile male was under influence of drugs or alcohol. An investigation was completed and forwarded to prosecutor’s office.
