Supporting the supporters

Recovery is a challenge, and the support systems available to those who seek to stay clean and/or sober after treatment, are often limited in small rural communities surrounded by water. When transiting out of treatment services, it is particularly hard to know where to go to find the resources needed for continued sobriety. For parents and family members trying to help their child or family member, it can be tough to know where to help them find the resources they need and even harder to understand how to fulfill your role in this limited support system.

On Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., North South Behavioral Health Organization is sponsoring, “Recovery Basics for Parents”, a one-day training, design to help parents and family members understand and support the recovery of their children, young adult or spouse. The training will take place at the Seven Day Adventist Church on 76 Gilbert Ln in Friday Harbor. The cost is free but limited to 20 participants. To register, either email Darci Ridenhour at nwrecovery2@gmail.com or call 360-770-0597. Take advantage of this nationally recognized program, and learn how to support someone you love transition through their recovery.
