The San Juan County Sheriff’s office responded to the following calls.

July 7

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic assault. One person was arrested for fourth-degree domestic violence and was booked into jail.

• Deputies responded to an agency assist call in the San Juan County District Courtroom as a person had just been ordered by the Judge to be taken into custody after the hearing for a fourth-degree domestic violence charge. The person was taken into custody without incident and released on bail.

• A Lopez deputy was called about a violation of a domestic violence protection order.

• An Orcas deputy stopped a driver for speeding on Deer Harbor Road. Subsequent investigation revealed the driver has a suspended driver’s license. The driver was released with a citation for speeding, 36 in a 25 mph zone.

• A Lopez deputy took a report of graffiti found at the skatepark. The graffiti was photographed and the parks were notified.

• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a speeding vehicle on Fisherman Bay Road. The driver, whose license expired nearly a year ago, was issued a citation for speeding and for driving without a valid operator’s license.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of harassment. A local person was sending harassing emails telling the recipient to kill themself. The incidents were documented, and the case was sent to the prosecutor.

July 8

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a vehicle versus residence collision. The driver was found to be impaired and was arrested for driving under the influence and booked into jail.

• A Lopez resident requested assistance with a landlord/tenant dispute.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a vandalism call at Camp Orkila. There are no suspects at this time.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of a citizen dispute. Two people were issued trespass warning letters as a result.

• On San Juan, a county jail inmate had a medical event and was transported to Peace Medical Center.

• A Lopez resident reported vandalism to a political sign. The suspect(s) also trespassed.

• An Orcas deputy took a found property report from a citizen who found an Illinois driver’s license on the ground on Turtle Back Mountain.

• An Orcas deputy took an incident report regarding a civil matter.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a juvenile problem in the 100 block of Alder Street. An investigation was conducted and determined no crime was committed.

•Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a speeding vehicle on Center Road near the school. The driver was issued a citation for traveling 52 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• A deputy stopped a motorist in the Lopez Village after seeing him driving without wearing his seat belt. The deputy issued the driver a ticket for failing to wear his seat belt.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a domestic dispute. There was no crime committed and the incident was cleared.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a motorist in the 3100 block of Fisherman Bay Road for speeding. The deputy issued the driver a ticket for speeding and gave him a verbal warning for not having his driver’s license with him.

July 9

• Deputies were dispatched to Waldron for a dispute between local residents and a logging operation. No probable cause for a crime was found, and parties were urged to settle their differences peacefully.

• A deputy on Orcas took a theft call in Deer Harbor. There are no suspects at this time.

• A Lopez deputy resolved a citizen dispute.

• A person had located a wallet in Friday Harbor and notified a deputy who placed the found property into evidence.

• A tourist shopper at a Lopez grocery store became irate during the checkout process and assaulted the juvenile employee, who was not injured. Deputies are searching for the suspect.

• A Sony wireless speaker and two wireless LED lights were found on Orcas and turned over to a deputy who booked them in for safekeeping at the Orcas substation.

• A Lopez motorist was issued citations for traveling 45 mph in a 25 mph zone and for not having a valid driver’s license.

• An Orcas deputy conducted a theft investigation that revealed a juvenile suspect was found in possession of the stolen property. The juvenile was arrested and booked into a juvenile detention facility.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a motorist and issued them a ticket for not wearing a seat belt. The driver was also ticketed for having a vehicle registration expired over two months.

• A deputy on San Juan found a firearm on a person barred from firearms possession. The suspect was charged with second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a theft, interviewed the complainant, and started an investigation.

July 10

• The reporting deputy responded to a citizen assist in the Friday Harbor area and helped the person recover some property.

• A Lopez deputy received information about suspicious circumstances occurring in a neighborhood.

• Orcas deputies responded to an unknown type of vehicle accident on the 500 block of Presidents Channel Lane. An investigation was conducted, and a person was found deceased due to an off-highway vehicle accident.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision. Both drivers were contacted and insurance information was exchanged.

• A Lopez deputy took a report of a lost photo ID. The person believes they dropped their driver’s license while hiking one of the island’s parks.

• A deputy was called about nuisance dogs running on a public beach on Lopez.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a driver of a vehicle for traveling 48 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone and issued them a citation for speeding.

July 11

• An Orcas deputy issued a driver a citation for speeding in the 1000 block of Olga Road.

• A Lopez deputy stopped and ticketed a driver for speeding, 54 mph in the 35 mph zone on Ferry Road, who was trying in vain to catch a ferry that had already departed.

• A deputy was dispatched to Friday Harbor about a dog left in a hot car. The deputy confirmed the dog was in distress and removed it from the vehicle.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a residential burglary call. The reporting party said they came home and discovered someone had been staying in their house without permission. The investigation is ongoing.

• Orcas deputies responded to an assault that occurred on Jones Island. The suspect was arrested off his boat and transported to the San Juan County Jail.

July 12

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a callback about a hit-and-run traffic collision that happened a few days prior on the island.

• A deputy responded to a call from a local business about a dispute with a patron. The manager of the business wanted the person trespassed and signed a trespass letter. The person in question was located and served the trespass letter.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a theft.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a harassment complaint. Though no crime was committed, the complaint was documented.

• A Lopez resident reported the theft of a Pride flag over the Fourth of July weekend.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of an agency assist.

July 13

• A Lopez deputy was called and took a report regarding a trespassing complaint.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle parked for a prolonged period of time. The vehicle was impounded.

• A deputy was called to collect a debit card found in a parking lot in Lopez village. Upon contacting the issuing bank, the card was already reported lost or stolen. The card was destroyed at the bank’s request.

• A Lopez deputy was called to a disabled vehicle partially blocking a lane of traffic in a curve. The deputy provided traffic control until the driver returned with help to move the disabled car, which had run out of gas.

• A citizen turned in some ammunition at the Orcas substation to be destroyed.

• Lopez deputy was called to check the registration of a boat and trailer for a party where the legal ownership was in dispute.

• A deputy was called regarding a dog running at large down the middle of Ferry Road on Lopez that was picked up by a concerned island resident. The dog had no tags or identification.

• A deputy took a report of found property on San Juan. The property owner was unable to be located and the property was placed into evidence for safekeeping.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of found property. The owner was located and the property was scheduled to be retrieved the following day.
