SJICF to host community update: Meeting island needs together

Submitted by the San Juan Island Community Foundation.

The San Juan Island Community Foundation invites the public to its upcoming nonprofit learning session on Thursday, Nov. 13, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the San Juan Grange. This quarterly event brings community nonprofits and their leaders together to share updates, receive free training on nonprofit best practices and explore collaborative opportunities to meet local needs.

This session is open to the public and will feature speakers from nonprofits serving islanders in the areas of housing, food security, health care, mental health and other essential services. Attendees will learn about pressing challenges and local collaborations for community care, as well as opportunities to support this vital work.

In addition to an update from Amy Saxe-Eyler, CEO of SJICF, featured nonprofit speakers will include:

Jennifer Armstrong, Joyce L. Sobel Family Resource Center.

Anna Coffelt-Kuetzing, Mullis Community Senior Center.

Dave Dunaway, SAFE San Juans.

Amanda Lynn, San Juan Community Home Trust.

Valarie Mitchell, Compass Health.

Evan Perrollaz, SJI Healthcare Foundation.

Rachelle Radonski, Friday Harbor Food Bank.

“SJICF’s quarterly Lunch & Learn series is about listening, learning, and linking arms with our nonprofit partners,” said Saxe-Eyler. “Instead of training, we’re dedicating this quarter’s session to inform the nonprofits and the wider community. The disruption in SNAP benefits and rising costs of food, housing, and healthcare premiums are stretching island families thinner than ever. Our nonprofits are seeing that when one basic need becomes harder to meet, it ripples through every part of a person’s wellbeing. Community collaboration has never been more important.”

The event is free and open to the public. Light snacks and drinks will be provided.
