SJC sheriff’s log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Dec. 31

• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Fisherman Bay Road and Weeks Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding 43 mph in a posted 25 mph zone.

• Deputies on San Juan Island responded to a call connected to a welfare check. The individual was contacted, and it was determined that they did not need any assistance.

• Orcas Island deputies responded to a weapon offense incident near downtown Eastsound. The suspect was located with a water gun in his pocket and subsequently arrested for harassment. The incident was documented.

• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a speeding vehicle on Fisherman Bay Road. The driver, a local man, was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding and expired registration. He was also provided with verbal warnings for several other deficiencies.

• A deputy on San Juan Island contacted an individual who wanted to report an assault. The individual did not want to pursue charges but wished to have the incident documented.

• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop. The driver was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs.

Jan. 1

• An Orcas Island deputy recovered found property from a store near downtown Eastsound. The owner of the property contacted the Sheriff’s Office, and the property was returned. The incident was documented.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a vandalism incident near the Beach Haven area. The deputy learned that an unauthorized house party may be the cause of damage to a residence. The reporting party only wanted the Sheriff’s Office to document the incident.

• Deputies responded to a fire on San Juan Island. The resident was contacted, and it was determined that the fire contained a small structure with prohibited materials that may not be burned in any outdoor fire. Charges were forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office.

• Deputies in Friday Harbor responded to a report of a welfare check. The reporting party was from out of state and was asking for a welfare check on a family member who was believed to be in Friday Harbor. Deputies discovered that the reporting party was not to contact the family member.

Jan. 2

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of CPR in progress. Life-saving measures were unsuccessful, and the individual was pronounced deceased.

Jan. 3

• San Juan County deputies responded to a complaint of harassment at a local business. No criminal activity was reported. A report was taken.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a theft incident in the Obstruction Pass area. The reporting party had a package delivered to their residence, and the package was missing. The incident was documented.

• A Lopez Deputy responded to a report of an assault between juveniles. The incident was documented.

• A deputy on San Juan Island stopped a vehicle as the driver was not wearing a seat belt and had an expired license. The driver was issued infractions for no valid operator’s license with ID and failing to wear a safety belt.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a single-vehicle rollover collision. The driver was arrested for DUI and was issued infractions for no insurance and driving with wheels off the roadway.

Jan. 4

• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop on Lovers Lane. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding 45 mph in a posted 25 mph zone.

• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a vehicle at 1 Ferry Road, the Lopez Ferry Landing. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding 54 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.

• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop on Olga Road. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding 42 mph in a posted 25 mph zone.

Jan. 5

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a parking problem.

• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Ferry Road and Long Lane. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding 52 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.

• Deputies on San Juan Island responded to a report of an accident-injury on Roche Harbor Road. The driver was transported to the hospital. Once he was cleared to leave the hospital, he was taken into custody for a warrant. A report was completed.

Jan. 6

• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a welfare check. The incident was documented.
