The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Dec. 3
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a domestic incident in the Eastsound area. The deputy learned that this incident was related to a previous incident, which had been investigated and documented.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to an accident hit-and-run near the Raccoon Point area. The deputy authored a report for the victim’s insurance company. The Sheriff’s Office is looking for the suspected vehicle, and if you have information, contact the Sheriff’s Office.
• Deputies responded to a report of an accident in Friday Harbor. Deputies contacted the involved drivers. An infraction was issued to the at-fault driver.
• Lopez Island deputies conducted a traffic stop on Hummel Lake Road for speeding. The driver was going 50 mph in a 35 mph zone. An infraction was given.
• Deputies in Friday Harbor were dispatched to a welfare check. Deputies contacted the individual at their residence. Later, deputies were again dispatched to that area to find the individual walking in the street. The individual was taken into protective custody for danger to self and others.
Dec. 4
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a fraud incident in the Eastsound area. The impersonator claimed to be a member of a cartel and threatened to murder the victim and their family if the victim did not pay them money. The savvy citizen contacted the police before paying the impersonator.
• Orcas Island deputies responded to a local address for a report of trespassing. A man who had already been served a trespass warning letter for the address in question had been observed at the address again. The deputies searched that same day unsuccessfully, but a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a mental health incident near Eastsound. The deputy learned that the subject was crying out for help. The deputy contacted a mental health provider, and the subject agreed to follow up with the designated crisis responder for continued support.
Dec. 5
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a fraud incident in the Eastsound area. The deputy learned that fraudulent charges were made on the victim’s credit card. While in the holiday season, please monitor your credit card and bank accounts to detect fraudulent activity early.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a fraud incident in the Deer Harbor area. The deputy learned that there was no financial loss and that the reporting party only wanted the incident documented.
• Orcas Island deputies responded to a report of a falsely promised free TV. There was no financial loss. A report was taken.
• Orcas Island deputies responded to a local business address for a report of trespassing. Despite being formally trespassed recently from the same address, a local resident returned to the building. She was placed under arrest and taken to the county jail in Friday Harbor.
• Deputies in Friday Harbor observed someone with an active warrant for their arrest. The individual was arrested without incident.
Dec. 6
• Firearms were turned over to a Lopez deputy for destruction.
• Orcas Island deputies responded to a call for suspicious activity. Two men were spotted working with shovels along Olga Road, doing some digging. As it turns out, the men were simply replacing a pre-existing roadside sign for a business. A report was made.
• A Lopez resident reported suspicious activity on their south end farm.
• Orcas Island deputies responded to a local address for a welfare check. The person was found in good health. A report was made.
• Orcas Island deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 2100 block of Olga Road for speeding, 50 mph in a 35 mph zone. An infraction was issued.
• Orcas Island deputies responded to a call in the Obstruction Pass involving an unleashed dog attacking chickens. The subject dog and its owner have not yet been identified. A report was made. The matter is under investigation.
Dec. 7
• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to a report of a mental health crisis, which led to a suicide attempt. The individual was taken into protective custody and transported to the emergency room at Peace Island Medical Center in Friday Harbor.
Dec. 8
• A deputy on Orcas Island was dispatched for a report of a car versus dog collision. A report was taken.
• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a citizen dispute at the ferry landing. The dispute was resolved civilly.
• A deputy on Orcas Island was dispatched to a reported identity theft. A report was taken.
Dec. 9
• Lopez Island Deputies were dispatched to an accident-noninjury on the 3400 block of Fisherman Bay Road. The incident was documented.
• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Mud Bay Road and Islandale Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding 50 mph in a posted 35 mph zone. Additional warnings were given.
• A deputy on Orcas Island performed a welfare check. The subject of the welfare check was referred to the Mobile Crisis Outreach Team.
• A deputy on San Juan Island conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that drove left of center and nearly hit two different parked vehicles. The driver was taken into custody for DUI. A report was completed.
