Sept. 7

  • A deputy was dispatched to a report of a suspicious circumstance in the Friday Harbor area. The subject was transported to Peace Island Medical Center for a mental health evaluation.
  • A wallet and its contents found in the South Beach area of San Juan Island were turned in by the National Park Service. Using contacts thru a AAA card and a credit card, contact was made with the owner, who had already returned home to Illinois. Arrangements have been made to return the wallet by FedEx.
  • A Friday Harbor resident reported being harassed during a traffic altercation near Cape San Juan. One of the drivers involved in the altercation was issued a citation for reckless driving.
  • Deputies were dispatched to an order violation in Friday Harbor. The subject was taken into custody for failing to comply with the order.
  • A deputy responded to a call of trespassing at a Friday Harbor business. While attending to the call, the subject, a transient Friday Harbor resident, was arrested for a local warrant pertaining to a dog bite. The subject was taken into custody and released after he spoke with the district court.
  • Deputies responded to a Lopez Island residence to conduct a welfare check on a depressed teenager. It was determined that the teenager was not in immediate danger and planned to seek medical assistance.
  • A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report that a citizen had received some suspicious paperwork supposedly from a bank. There are no suspects at this time.
  • A Lopez Island deputy responded to a Port Stanley Road residence for a harassment complaint. The complaint, which resulted from an on-going neighbor dispute, was resolved after the neighbors spoke and agreed to discuss their concerns.
  • A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a possible order violation. The deputy investigated the incident and determined that the person in question had not violated the order.
  • A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a hit-and-run. The victim reported that an unknown vehicle had struck his car in a parking lot. There are currently no suspects.

Sept. 8

  • A deputy responded to a traffic collision on Orcas Island. An investigation and report were completed.
  • Deputies recovered a driver’s license at a store in Friday Harbor that had been used
  • in an attempt to purchase alcohol.
  • Deputies responded to the Port Of Friday Harbor to investigate a domestic dispute. Deputies found that an assault had taken place and an arrest was made.
  • A parking ticket was issued for a vehicle that is for sale. A written warning had been left on the vehicle two days prior.
  • Deputies responded to a Lopez Island residence for a possible domestic violence assault. Involved persons first claimed an assault occurred, but then they recanted. Both parties refused to cooperate with the investigating deputies. Subjects were separated for the evening and a report was completed.

Sept. 9

  • Deputies responded to a Lopez Island residence for a complaint of an unwanted
  • person. The subject agreed to depart from the property and a report was completed.
  • A Lopez deputy was dispatched for an alleged hit-and-run collision involving a bank of mailboxes. The driver was located and agreed to pay for repairs.
  • An Orcas deputy responded to a report of vandalism to construction equipment in Eastsound. Additional patrols have been added and a report was completed.
  • A deputy responded to a report of fraud that occurred on Orcas Island. An investigation was completed and a report filed.
  • A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a single vehicle collision with possible injury and entrapment. The driver was extricated and evaluated and released from the medical center. A collision report was completed and no infractions were issued.
  • A woman brought a wallet into the sheriff’s office. She stated the items had been left at the Port Office for several days, and no contact had been received from the owner.
  • Friday Harbor deputies received reports of an erratic driver in a green truck. The vehicle was stopped by the deputies and the driver was contacted, interviewed and arrested for DUI. He was transported to the station, processed and given a court date. The truck was impounded.
  • A deputy responded to an Eastsound address regarding a report of gunshots being fired. A subject was contacted several times, and he refused to talk to law enforcement. An informational report was taken.

Sept. 10

  • Deputies responded to a residence in Friday Harbor to settle a domestic dispute.
  • A Lopez deputy heard an alarm sounding inside a residence. Upon further investigation the deputy discovered that the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors had been activated. The fire department was dispatched and the house was ventilated.
  • A Seattle man reported finding several dead waterfowl dumped on the beach at the Fisherman Bay Spit on Lopez. A report was taken, and the case was referred to state Fish and Wildlife Police for investigation.
  • A deputy was contacted in reference to a citizen assist. The subject requested that his firearm be taken for safekeeping while the subject travels to Canada. The item was secured in evidence until the owner’s return.

Sept. 11

  • A Lopez deputy was dispatched to the ferry landing to check on a subject reportedly drinking and throwing hatchets at nearby trees. When contacted, the subject denied the allegations. He was not intoxicated so he was allowed to board the departing ferry.
  • A Lopez deputy assisted a disabled motorist whose car would not start as the ferry line began moving. The car was ultimately pushed into the parking lot and the driver missed the ferry.
  • San Juan deputies responded to a domestic dispute. There was no physical contact or damage done and one of the parties agreed to staying with family for the night.
  • A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a known suspended driver in Eastsound. During the vehicle impound, drug paraphernalia was found. A search warrant was issued to search the vehicle and evidence was gathered. The driver of the vehicle was released with a promise to appear in court.

Sept 12

  • A Lopez Island resident reported that goose hunters were trespassing on his property. The hunters were contacted by a deputy and they believed they had permission to hunt there. They were reminded that they needed written permission from the landowner to hunt on private property.
  • Deputies responded to a theft in downtown Eastsound. An investigation was completed and an informational report was written.
  • Deputies responded to a report of a theft in downtown Eastsound. A report was taken.
  • A man reported finding a dead marine mammal on Agate Beach on Lopez Island. A deputy went to the scene, photographed the carcass and a report was taken. The case has been referred to Fish and Wildlife Police.
  • A deputy was dispatched to an Eastsound resort cabin regarding found property that had washed up ashore. The package appeared to be drugs. No suspect or owner information is known at this time.
