San Juan County Changes Health Insurance Carriers

San Juan County is notifying health care providers that as of January 1, 2010, the County is changing insurance carriers for the health insurance provided by the County to its employees and their dependents. The health insurance plan currently covers 541 people, so the change will affect billing practices and procedures for many local health care providers.

As of January 1, 2010, the County will change from Regence Blue Shield to the Group Health “Options” plan for its medical, prescription and vision coverage, and to Washington Dental Service’s Delta Dental PPO plan for dental coverage. After reviewing different plan options from different insurance providers, the County decided to make the change in order to reduce costs and maintain good health benefit coverage for county employees and their dependents.

The County will stay on the Regence plan until December 31, 2009.

Health care providers can contact San Juan County’s Human Resources division at (360) 370-7403 with any questions that may arise as a result of the changeover.
