Nominations for “Real Heroes,” ordinary people who have done extraordinary things, are now being accepted by the Anacortes/San Juan Islands Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Those selected will be honored at the Sixth Annual Real Heroes Breakfast on May 14 at the Northern Lights Casino in Anacortes. Nominations are due by April 10, 2008.

Categories, which may be changed according to nominations received, include Spirit of the Red Cross, Adult Good Samaritan, Law Enforcement, Medical, Education, Fire Rescue, Animal Rescue/Nature, Community Service, Tribal Community, Worksite Safety and Community Organization.

“We have suggested categories, but we definitely don’t want to limit these and exclude someone who is very deserving of a Real Hero award,” said Steve McIntosh, chairman of the chapter board of directors.
