The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Mar. 3
• A San Juan deputy stopped the drivers of two vehicles for traveling 60 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. Both drivers were issued citations for speeding.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 58 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding.
• San Juan deputies located a subject with a warrant. The subject was taken into custody and booked into the San Juan County Jail.
• A Lopez deputy documented a minor collision involving an unoccupied vehicle that was struck and damaged on Decatur Island.
• A deputy took a report of found property. The property owner could not be located and the property was submitted to the evidence room.
• A community member found two unaccompanied dogs at a San Juan trail head. One of the dogs appeared to have been injured. Deputies helped get the animals to veterinary care, and reunited them with their owner.
Mar. 4
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a vandalism call. An investigation was conducted and there are no suspects at this time.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a citizen dispute in Friday Harbor. No crime appeared to have been committed.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of unemployment fraud.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a trespassing complaint. The suspect was issued a citation for first degree criminal trespassing.
Mar. 5
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of an assault at a Friday Harbor business. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment and the suspect was located and arrested for second degree-assault.
• A deputy investigated a single vehicle collision on Lopez. The driver was issued a citation and a collision report was completed.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for failing to transfer the vehicle title within 45 days. The driver was issued a citation for not having insurance.
• A deputy responded with Orcas Fire & Rescue to a structure fire on Olga Road. When they arrived, they found a room and its contents in flames. The fire was quickly extinguished and did not spread to the rest of the structure. The cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding on Douglas Road. The driver was issued a citation for driving 81 mph in a 45 mph zone.
• San Juan deputies received a request for an agency assist from Anacortes Police department regarding a domestic incident. The incident is still under investigation.
• A deputy was dispatched to a disturbance in Friday Harbor. When the deputy arrived and contacted the people involved, one person appeared to be in crisis but refused assistance and walked away.
• San Juan deputies responded to a request for a welfare check. The involved party was contacted and needed no assistance.
• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a citation for an expired vehicle registration of more than two months, and for not having proof of liability insurance.
• Deputies were dispatched to a report of disorderly conduct at an Eastsound business.
Mar. 6
• A Lopez deputy ticketed a driver for speeding, 53 mph in a 35 mph zone on Center Road. The driver was also warned an expired vehicle registration more than two months.
• A deputy on Orcas stopped the driver of a vehicle that was speeding. The driver was issued a citation for driving 15 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.
• A Lopezian called a deputy with questions about the process of disposing junk vehicles on private property.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for expired registration and defective tail lamp. The driver was issued citations for having an expired registration of more than two months; for not having insurance; for not having the vehicle’s registration in the vehicles; and for a defective tail light.
• A Lopez deputy was sent on a report of a tree down, partially blocking a road. The tree was removed and the road was cleared.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle because the owner did not have a valid license and was speeding. The driver was issued a citation for third-degree driving with a suspended license and one for speeding. The driver also received a warning.
• Lopez deputies responded to a residence after an open line 911 call was received. No problem was found; Checking further, it was learned a person nearby had accidentally called 911 through a phone app triggering the response.
• A deputy assisted a citizen on Lopez by answering questions regarding on-going law enforcement efforts and procedures in San Juan County.
• A Lopez deputy issued a Seattle driver citations for traveling 40 mph in a 25 mph zone on Fisherman Bay Road, and for driving with license plate tags that expired 11 months ago.
• A deputy responded to a report of an assault that occurred in Friday Harbor. The person was discovered to have injuries to their face, and provided suspect information and a written statement. Charges for assault were forward to prosecuting attorney’s office.
• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a citizen assist call.
Mar. 7
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a trespassing complaint, that was discovered to be a civil issue over property boundaries.
• A Lopez deputy was called regarding a tree that had broken in the wind and fallen onto overhead utility wires along Fisherman Bay Road. An OPALCO crew also responded and cleared the tree from the lines.
• A Lopez deputy was called to assist with traffic control while a tow truck recovered a vehicle that had driven off the road on a blind curve along Center Road.
• A deputy on Lopez referred a case to the prosecutor involving a person driving with a suspended or revoked license. The deputy observed the subject, known to have a suspended license, driving through a scene of an unrelated incident.
• San Juan deputies responded to a single-vehicle collision on San Juan Valley Road. The driver was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. He was transported to the hospital and later arrested for that crime.
• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for speeding, 58 mph in a 35 mph zone.
Mar. 8
• A Lopez deputy was called to a domestic disturbance. The conflict was verbal only, with no allegations or indications of any crime having been committed. One of the parties involved left afterward to allow for time and space.
• A San Juan deputy observed a driver with a suspended driver’s license operating a vehicle. The deputy’s report will be sent to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a single vehicle collision. The driver was found deceased at the scene. Upon investigation, the incident appeared to be a tragic accident and no foul play is suspected at this time.
• A deputy on Lopez was dispatched to investigate bones that were found on a beach. The bones were analyzed by an anthropologist and determined to be non-human.
• A deputy on San Juan took a report of an attempted fraud. There was no monetary loss due to inaction by the reporting party.
• A San Juan deputy checked the welfare of two foster children living in Friday Harbor. The children were found to be safe and well-cared for. A report documenting the findings was filed.
Mar. 9
• A Lopez deputy responded to a domestic disturbance. Once there, the deputy determined the dispute was verbal only, with no indication a crime occurred.
• A deputy was called about a parking issue in Lopez Village.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of found property. The property was entered into evidence since the owner could not be located.
• A deputy responded to a complaint of a suspicious person at a resort office on San Juan. The person committed no crime, but caused alarm with the staff. The man left prior to the deputy’s arrival. The man was later identified and issued a trespass warning for the property.
• An Orcas deputy contacted a citizen about a social media incident that had occurred.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of fraud. The reporting party knew that the call was fraudulent and did not provide any personal information to the caller.
• San Juan deputies took a report of a residential burglary in Friday Harbor. The victim was off island, and was reporting the crime telephonically. The investigation is ongoing.
Mar. 10
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of a domestic incident in Friday Harbor. When the deputy arrived but the person refused to answer the door. Finally, deputies were able to make contact with the people involved and, after interviewing everyone, found no crime had been committed.
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of a trespassing near Eastsound. A report was filed and the case was referred to the prosecuting attorney for charging consideration.
