The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Jan. 22
• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a politically charged paper printout left at the end of a Lopez resident’s driveway. The incident was documented.
• Lopez Island deputies were asked to take multiple firearms into safekeeping. The incident was documented.
• An Orcas Island deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding 53 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed and other infractions.
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of an unwanted person at Roche Harbor Resort. Prior to arrival, the suspect began to fight with security staff. They were booked for malicious mischief in the second degree, two counts of assault in the fourth degree, possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing a law enforcement officer.
Jan. 23
• Lopez Island deputies were dispatched to a domestic violence call. An investigation was conducted, and an individual was arrested for assault in the fourth degree – domestic violence. The incident was documented.
• A deputy on Orcas Island assisted a local resident with a stolen vehicle report.
Jan. 24
• A San Juan deputy stopped a motorcycle as the owner did not have an endorsement. The rider was issued infractions for no endorsement and no insurance and the motorcycle was impounded.
• A San Juan deputy observed a vehicle parked in multiple spaces on Spring Street. The deputy posted an infraction for a parking violation.
• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued criminal citations for failure to identify, making a false statement to a public servant, driving while license suspended in the third degree and violation of ignition interlock device requirement.
• An Orcas Island man was arrested for DUI and other traffic-related crimes.
Jan. 25
• A Lopez deputy impounded an abandoned vehicle being used for storage that was parked partially on the road. The owner had been notified several weeks prior.
• An Orcas Island deputy was dispatched to a threats call. The investigation is ongoing.
• A deputy on Orcas Island received a report of the theft of a battery from a boat.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 42 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction for speed. Additional warnings were given.
Jan. 26
• A Lopez deputy was contacted regarding suspected drug use by a tenant.
• A citizen reported finding a shell casing in the 300 block of Carter Avenue on San Juan. The deputy located the empty shell casing from a 25-06 and it was booked into evidence.
Jan. 27
• Lopez deputies were contacted for a mental health issue. A report was forwarded to Compass Health.
Jan. 28
• Lopez Island deputies and Lopez Island Fire & EMS were dispatched to a death investigation. The incident was investigated and documented.
• A deputy on Lopez was dispatched to a report of trespassers on the roof of a residence. The report was unfounded.
