Outdoor burning in San Jan County is banned

On Thursday July 23, Bob Low, The San Juan County Fire Marshal after conferring with the Fire District Chiefs, has shut down all outdoor burning in San Juan County. This includes all recreational fires. This decision is based on the extreme dry conditions and the falling fuel moisture levels, which can lead to major wildland fires.

The Fire Marshal and Fire Chiefs are asking the public to help them by being vigilant, both around their property and a watch of the neighboring property. Please help us by reporting suspicious amounts of smoke or visible flame. Early detection and application of water is the key to helping keep small fires small.

Please help your firefighters keep our islands safe from fire by respecting the burn ban and reporting illegal burning. Bob Low, SJC Fire Marshall, Jim Ghiglione, Lopez Fire Chief.
