Oscar W. Anderson, 90, passed away at his home on Lopez Island on Jan. 24, 2008. He was born on Lopez Island on August 29, 1917.

He was in the Navy and worked for the Washington State Ferries until he retired in 1983.

He was well-known by the community, working for the ferry system and as a smelt fisherman in his earlier years, which he did in Mud Bay.

He loved spending time with his friends, especially Aunt Betty and Uncle Phil.

Oscar was married to Mary Ann Anderson on July 24, 1957, and they had one child, one year and one day later, Mary Alice Anderson who lives on Lopez. His wife passed away on Nov. 24, 1988.

Oscar had a sister, Irene Carson, who lived in Anacortes, WA. She passed away Jan. 25, 2008. She was 96 years old.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. in Center Church. All family and friends are welcome.
