Lopez School levy lid losses

Submitted by Kirman Taylor and Bill LeDrew

The Lopez Island School District has a financial crisis. The State of Washington has reduced the amount we can collect from the levy passed by Lopez voters in 2018 by 75% leaving Lopez School District $3-400,000 short this year.

The School Administration, School Board, Unions and staff have met to work on the budget in order to preserve jobs and minimize impacts on programs. The loss is substantial and will reduce what the school used to be able to provide students.

Support Lopez Island School is mailing a letter this week to all Lopez property owners asking them to pay directly to LISD what we voted for:30 cents per $1000 of assessed value of your property.

Be on the lookout for the letter from Support Lopez Island School which explains the details. Owners will mail their check directly to the School. The donation is tax deductible.
