The Lopez Community Land Trust Board of Directors will meet at the LCLT office (above Isabel’s Coffee Shop) on Monday, July 14 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. All are welcome!

The Friends of Woodmen Hall will hold its next general meeting on July 14, 10:30 a.m. at the hall.

Wednesday night open sail

There will be an Wednesday night open sail in Fisherman Bay from July 9 through August 27. Two one-hour sessions: 4:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. This is for kids and adults with some sailing experience. Suggested donation: El Toros (one person): $5/hr. Splashes (one person): $5/hr. Lidos (one to hour people): $10/hr. For more information, or to reserve a boat in advance, call Lopez Island Family Resource Center at 468-4117.

Splash sailing dinghy racing

On Saturdays from July 12 through August 30, kids and adults with some sailing experience are invited to participate in Splash Sailing Dinghy Racing in Fisherman Bay, starting at 3:00 p.m. Kids and adults welcome! $10 donation cheerfully accepted. Kids under 18 free. NOTE: No races on July 19 and August 9 due to weekend sailing classes. For more information call Gary Zerbst at 468-4544. Ceramic sculpture for kids

Summer is a time for exploration and creativity. This summer the Orcas Island Recreation Program will be offering classes in ceramic sculpture/pottery at Ellen Wherrette’s home studio. Explore the imagination, while creating forms which celebrate the natural environment. This class will be fun and challenging for both boys and girls with an interest in the visual arts. Class is Monday-Wednesday, July 14-16, (12:30 to 3 p.m.), ages 7-14, cost: $50. Call 376-5339 to register.

Life Line screening

Lopez Center is hosting a Life Line Screening on Tuesday, August 26. Life Line will be performing ultrasound tests for stroke, abdominal aortic aneurysm, peripheral arterial disease, osteoporosis, atrial fibrillation, glucose and cholesterol levels. The cost is $35-$45 individually. Package of four screenings, $139 or seven priced at $199. You must call 1-800-643-6075 to pre-register. Space is limited!

Creating with beads

Sabrina Brazier is back on Lopez as part of the KSW program. Learn to make beaded critters out of glass seed beads and wire. Students will also have the opportunity to make a charm bracelet or a ribbon or leather snap bracelet. Classes are geared for ages: 6-10 and will be August 18-19 from 2-4 p.m. Participants will meet at the Lopez School Art Room. Fee: $30. For more information contact the LIFRC @ 468-4117.

Mad kayak skills

Tracie Red Elk will lead this class to help kayaking kids take their skills to the next level! Tracie will cover equipment, forward and turning strokes, edging and bracing, wet exits and rescues.
