Lopez fireworks show: what to expect

Obtaining large caliber shells is continuing to be difficult due to shipping complications from China, as has been the case for the last two years.

Obtaining large caliber shells is continuing to be difficult due to shipping complications from China, as has been the case for the last two years.

Lopez Island Community Fireworks is doing its best to find alternate suppliers, and plans to allocate the large shells that they have been able to get over the next three to four years, hoping to reestablish a reliable source within that time.

Since they will have fewer large shells than in previous years, additional fireworks effects are being added to the show to compensate, so that the high level of uniqueness and quality that is characteristic of the Lopez Fireworks Show will be maintained.

Despite current challenges in obtaining large shells, Lopez Fireworks has located a supply that will suffice for at least the next several years, and they will take this time as an opportunity to introduce new innovative effects to the show. It is their fullest intention to continue to provide an impressively large, unique fireworks show on Lopez, well into the indefinite future.

This year the crew plans to add background music to the unique fireworks show. Thanks to the technical support and willingness of local station KLOI (102.9 FM), they hope to have background music starting approximately 15 minutes before show time. Show time is promptly at 10:30 p.m. Please tune into 102.9 before and during the fireworks show.

The fireworks team would like to invite you to a gathering in the early morning of July 5. What goes up, comes down, and must be cleaned up. This is a task that most of the volunteers would like to ignore, but it must be done! Please call Rod Duncan at 468-3588 if you would like to participate in this early morning gathering.
