Lopez

• Literary Salon at the Lopez Library on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the library’s fireplace room.

• Story Hour at the Lopez Library every Wednesday at 11 a.m in the Children’s Library. Visit the Library’s Web site at www.lopezlibrary.org.

• The Rebel Book Club — a literary salon for teens — meets the last Friday of the month at 3:30 at the Lopez Library. The first meeting will be Friday, Jan. 25, and will be facilitated by Assistant Librarian Karen Rogers. Call 468-2265 for more information.

• Poetry Nights at 7 p.m. on the third Thursdays of the month at Lopez Library. Patrons can share their favorite poets or read works of their own.

• Movie Nights! The Library will be showing select films every Wednesday starting at 4:30 p.m. Some will be for young children or teens. Call or check their website, www.lopezlibrary.org, for listings.

ORCAS

• Writers’ Roundtable meets every 3rd Saturday of the month from 1-3 p.m. in the Community Room, Orcas Island Library. Writers’ Roundtable will continue the tradition of “Second Saturday for Writers,” offering an opportunity for writers to get together for discussion, writing exercises, and presentations by writers in our community. San Juan

• Thursday, Jan. 24, 6:00 p.m. Goal Setting Workshop at the San Juan Island Library. Minnie Knych of the Northwest Workforce Development Council leads a workshop on goal setting. Pre-registration for adults is required.

• Friday, Jan. 25 at 7:00 p.m. Poetry and Spoken Word at the San Juan Island Library. Featured presenters and Open Microphone. Come ready to listen or to speak.

• Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 10 a.m. and again at 11:15 a.m. Getting Comfortable With Computers — III. Now two sessions. This is a continuation of the introductory classes for people who are just beginning to use computers.

• Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 5:30 p.m. Exito en el Norte / Success in the North — Health Care. A free film developed by the Iowa extension office for new immigrants to the United States about the Health Care system in the US.

• Friday, Feb. 1 at 6:30 p.m. Family Film Festival: Freaky Friday. Attend a free movie with your family in front of the cozy fireplace at the San Juan Island Library courtesy of Friends of the San Juan Island Library.

• Sunday, Feb. 3 at 6:00 p.m. Come to the library with your knitting or crocheting to discuss “Yarn Harlot: The Secret Life of a Knitter” by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. Multiple book club copies are available for check-out.

• Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 10 a.m. and again at 11:15 a.m. How to Surf the Internet — I. Now two sessions.

• Friday, Feb. 8 at 6:00 p.m. Valentine Making at the Library. Make a valentine for the people (or books) you love! Craft supplies and refreshments will be provided.

• Sunday, Feb. 10 at 7:00 PM An Evening of Family Stories with Joe and Paula McHugh at the Library. Washington author, storyteller and musician Joe McHugh will be visiting San Juan Island Library with Paula McHugh to share family stories he has compiled from around the country.

Weekly

• After School Read Aloud Mondays 3:15-4:15 p.m. starting October 15. Elementary school aged children are invited to this weekly program as we read through books. Friends of the Library provides healthy snacks and juices.

• Thursday, 10:00 a.m. The San Juan Island Library offers Lapsit and Linger for parents, infants and toddlers each Thursday morning at the San Juan Island Library from 10:00 to 11:00. Parents and toddlers are invited for stories, songs, and socializing. Free.

• Thursday, 1:30 — 2:15 p.m. Listen Up! for Adults at the Mullis Community Senior Center lounge. Join other adults listening to poetry, articles and essays, snippets and stories. Come to the Mullis Community Senior Center lounge on Mondays after the hot lunch at 1:30 p.m. with something to share, or just to listen. Free.

• Friday, 10:30 a.m. Storytime for Preschoolers. The San Juan Island Library offers a weekly Storytime for preschool children each Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:00. Join us for stories, songs, finger plays and special holiday programs. Free.

Monthly

• Second Tuesday of the month, 6:00 p.m. San Juan Island Library Trustees Meeting. The library trustees meet monthly to set library policy. Public welcome.

• Third Thursday of the month, 7:00 p.m. Literary Salon at the San Juan Island Library. Join us in front of the fireplace on each third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. to discuss any great books you may have read lately.
