Journey to all the national parks

Mike Meyer, of Nebraska, is on a quest to be the youngest person to visit all 411 national parks in three years.

Meyer visited the San Juan’s two national park in late June and early July.

The 30-year-old told the Washington Post that “It’s not just Grand Canyon, Acadia, Yellowstone, it is this whole system of things that make us Americans.”

Only 37 people have achieved the goal of visiting each site. The trip was spurred by Meyer’s desire to honor the 11th anniversary of his father who loved to drive.

Meyer is a contributor to the Voice of America, the US fed government’s news agency. He creates weekly summaries of his journey. Meyer a professional singer, musical improv performer, and founder of a group for young gay Christians.

The trip involves 25 battlefields and military sites, 19 nature preserves, 129 historical spots, 112 memorials and monuments and more.
