San Juan County Sheriff’s Department reported responding to these calls:
March 30: Excessive speed prompted the arrest of a Lopez Island man for DUI following mid-afternoon traffic stop on Fisherman Bay Road. The 46-year-old, who was pulled over in the 2000 block of Fisherman Bay Road at about 3 p.m., was also ticketed for speeding.
April 9: Officers seized a dog belonging to an Orcas Island man following a clash between canines on Raccoon Point Road, in which another man was bit. The 23-year-old’s dog reportedly bit a neighbor as the 69-year-old was trying to separate two dogs locked in battle. The accused biter was to be held in quarantine for a mandatory 10 days.
April 7: A familiar face and a pair of warrants led to a mid-afternoon arrest of a San Juan Island in the parking lot of a Friday Harbor apartment complex. The 23-year-old, who was taken into custody without incident near Carter Avenue at about 3 p.m., was convicted of felony assault late last year following an attack on a stranger in a Friday Harbor bar several months earlier.
April 11: A Lopez Island woman believes someone broke into her home and used her hot tub without permission while she was on a four-day trip off-island. The 65-year-old claims that the tub must have been used by an intruder because the power was on when she came home. She was advised that installing motion detectors might prevent a reoccurrence and assured that officers would keep an eye on her Dragon Run home after dark.
– A total of 34 doses of potent prescription painkillers vanished in an apparent break-in and theft at a Friday Harbor home. The homeowner, a 60-year-old man, reportedly had just re-filled one of two morphine-derivative prescriptions just prior to the alleged theft at his Guard Street home.
– Excessive speed and a felony-related warrant led to the arrest of an Orcas Island man following mid-day traffic stop near the intersection of Nordstrom Lane and Orcas Road. The 33-year-old, who was pulled over at about noon, was also ticketed for speeding.
April 12: A San Juan Island teen is suspected in the break-in and theft of belongings at a nearby home in the Eagle Cove neighborhood. The father of the 16-year-old reportedly found the neighbor’s missing belongings, a laptop computer and digital camera valued together at $975, in the boy’s room shortly after the break-in. The boy was listed as a runaway in the wake of the alleged theft.
April 13: Masonry tools missing, anyone? Three bags full of masonry tools were found by a dumpster at American Camp on San Juan Island. The bags of abandoned tools were turned over to the Sheriff’s department by National Parks’ personnel.
– A television, a VCR and a blanket are among the household belongings that disappeared in an apparent break-in and theft at an Orcas Island home. The burglary reportedly occurred at a home in the 200 block of Raccoon Road.
– A San Juan Island man claims someone used the numbers off his debit card to purchase $117 of merchandise in South Carolina in an apparent case of fraud. The 44-year-old reportedly insists that the card in question was never out of his possession and that he knows no one in that state.
– A San Juan Island woman claims that someone used the numbers off her debit card to purchase $237 worth of iTunes online in an apparent case of fraud. The 68-year-old has since cancelled that card.
April 14: A San Juan Island woman claims someone swiped the numbers off her debit card and used them online to purchase $1,000 in merchandise in an apparent case of fraud. The fraudulent transactions reportedly occurred over the course of a seven-day period at the end of March.
April 15: A mid-afternoon altercation at an Orcas Island home prompted the arrest of an Orcas man on allegations of felony assault. The 43-year-old, who was taken into custody at his Cadden Lane home at about 3 p.m., faces charges of second-degree assault, a felony, and fourth-degree assault, a misdemeanor. A firearm reportedly was involved in the altercation, in which the man allegedly assaulted a woman who lives at the same address.
April 16: Failure to heed a stop sign prompted the arrest of a Snoqualmie man for driving with a suspended license following a late-night traffic stop in Friday Harbor. The 27-year-old, who was pulled over near the intersection of Blair Avenue and Guard Street, was taken into custody at about 11 p.m.
