Hillstomp to perform tonk and boogie

The spreading of a sonic gospel can be a tiring task, one borne of devotion and tenacity.

Portland’s Hillstomp (Hurricane Henry and Lord Johnny Buckets) have been hitting every cantina from Albuquerque to Port Townsend for the past decade. The duo dig deep in the Delta silt and come up swingin’, swayin’ and brayin’ with tales of death, desertion, redemption and love gone awry. Imagine the house band of a bayou congregation led by The Swamp Thing and John Lee Hooker, and you get the idea of just what these boys are laying down.

Hillstomp will be bringing their gutbucket blues to the Lopez Community Center’s outdoor pavilion on Friday, Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m. Lopez’s own working class heroes The High Tankers will be opening. Seriously boogie friendly; come one, come all.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for youth and available from the Lopez Center office, online at www.lopezcenter.com, Paper Scissors on the Rock, Blossom Organic Grocery, Islehaven Books, and Islandale Southender.

In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved indoors to Lopez Center.
