Haywire horses, tenant trouble, forsaken fridge | Sheriff’s Log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls:

May 2

• A Friday Harbor deputy issued a driver for a speeding infraction and was warned for speeding.

• A Lopez Island deputy responded to a call about dogs at large. The dogs were located and returned to the owner’s property. It was determined the dogs’ owners recently installed a gate with a dog-proof latch, which malfunctioned. Repairs were made to the latch on the gate.

• A Friday Harbor deputy arrested a juvenile for minor in possession/consumption and possession of paraphernalia.

• A corrections deputy and the patrol sergeant responded to a verbal disturbance in the courthouse on San Juan. The altercation was only verbal in nature and was handled internally within the courthouse.

• A Lopez Island deputy responded to a landlord-tenant dispute and stood by while the tenant removed personal property from the premises.

May 3

• An Orcas deputy conducted a traffic stop near Eastsound. The driver was issued a citation for speeding 46 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• A deputy spoke with a Lopez Island resident regarding a civil dispute. The reporting person declined pursuing a formal complaint.

• A Friday Harbor deputy issued a citation on a driver for an instruction permit violation.

• A Friday Harbor deputy issued a citation to a driver for failing to wear a seat belt.

• A Friday Harbor deputy issued a citation for failure to yield to a right of way to a driver.

• Lopez Island deputies arrested a person for assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence. The individual was transported to Friday Harbor and placed in jail to await a hearing.

May 4

• A deputy responded to a boating issue in a Friday Harbor marina. The deputy spoke with the caller and completed an informational report.

• A Lopez Island deputy responded to a report of horses running loose on Center Road. The owner of the horses was identified, and the horses were placed back in their corral.

• A Lopez Island deputy responded to Ferry Road for a vehicle accident. It was determined the driver got stuck in the dirt along the road when he swerved to avoid hitting a vehicle that stopped on the road. There was no injuries or vehicle damage. The vehicle was pulled out.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a domestic violence incident. A report was taken.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a theft at a business. The suspect was arrested and was booked into the jail.

• A Friday Harbor deputy was dispatched to a hit-and-run. A possible suspect vehicle is being looked for.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped a driver for failing to transfer the vehicle title within 45 days. The driver was issued a criminal citation.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a disturbance. A report was taken.

• A Friday Harbor deputy issued a citation to a driver for failing to stop at a stop sign and warned for having no insurance and no driver’s license.

• A Friday Harbor deputy issued a citation to a driver for driving while having their license suspended/revoked in the third degree and a citation for failing to use a turn signal. The driver was warned for failing to register the vehicle and having no proof of insurance.

• A deputy responded to a suspicious event at a residence in Friday Harbor. The deputy met with the caller and completed an informational report.

• Deputies responded to a reported vehicle collision in Eastsound. The vehicle left the scene but was located shortly thereafter. The owner of the vehicle was issued a citation for negligent driving in the second degree.

May 5

• Orcas deputies responded in the early morning hours to a domestic disturbance in Eastsound. Further investigation revealed that there was probable cause to arrest a male who had assaulted his girlfriend. The male was arrested for domestic violence assault in the fourth degree.

• A Friday Harbor deputy issued a driver a citation for failing to stop at stop sign.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a vehicle collision that occurred the day prior.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle for having expired tabs. The driver was issued a citation for having an expired registration over two months and no insurance.

• A Lopez Island deputy was called to the ferry terminal regarding an unattended vehicle left in the ferry line while the ferry was loading. The vehicle was issued a parking ticket.

May 6

• A deputy responded to a walk-in delayed report of a theft in the Friday Harbor area. Upon investigation it was found that there is no suspect description and no workable leads at this time. Information was gathered and a report was made.

• Lopez deputies and EMS searched for a missing elderly woman. A neighbor who was assisting found the woman in good condition quite a ways from her home.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle for failing to stop at stop sign, having no turn signal and speeding. The driver was issued a citation for speeding 40 mph in a 25 mph.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for speed 43 mph in a 25 mph.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for speeding 45 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a two-vehicle collision. A report was taken.

• Deputies issued infractions to a driver in Friday Harbor for cellphone use while driving and having no driver’s license and no insurance. Warnings were given for no vehicle registration in vehicle and defective taillights.

• A Lopez deputy gave a warning to a driver for having an improper load, excessive right overhang and excessive rear overhang without a flag.

May 7

• A deputy responded to a suspicious activity call in Friday Harbor. The deputy made contact with the parties involved and an informational report was made.

• A deputy responded to a domestic disturbance at a Lopez Island residence. A male was arrested for assault and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.

• A Friday Harbor deputy was dispatched to a non-injury collision. A report was taken and information was exchanged between both drivers. No infractions were issued.

• A Friday Harbor deputy noticed damage to their patrol car. An informational report was completed.

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of harassment in Friday Harbor. The property owner filled out a trespass order to be served.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a two car non-injury collision. A report was taken and no infractions were issued.

• A Friday Harbor woman reported domestic violence occurring in her home. An investigation is looking into the allegations.

• A deputy responded to a citizen assist call in Friday Harbor regarding a civil issue between a tenant and her landlord. The deputy provided that caller with information on tenant rights and completed an informational report.

• A Lopez Island deputy was called regarding a suspicious vehicle in Lopez Village. The vehicle occupant was napping waiting for a family member to get off work at a nearby business.

May 8

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of an abandoned refrigerator. The owner was contacted and stated they will remove the door.
