The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Nov. 5
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 57 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Deer Harbor Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed, operating a vehicle without insurance and expired vehicle registration.
• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop on Orcas Road. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding, 57 mph in a 40 mph zone, and provided a verbal warning for expired registration.
• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding, 48 mph in a 35 mph zone. A warning was issued for expired registration.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of vandalized outdoor property at a local church. The vandalizer was captured on video, identified and arrested for malicious mischief in the third degree.
Nov. 6
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a residential burglary incident near the North Beach area. The victim observed that their residence facilities were used, and a coffee mug was missing. A suspicious person was seen wandering the area. The incident was documented.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a theft report. A check was discovered missing from a mailbox in the Village area. The writer of the check quickly notified their bank, and no money was lost.
• An individual in Friday Harbor contacted the Sheriff’s Office wanting to speak to a deputy about an issue that was civil in nature. An informational report was generated.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 56 mph in a posted 40 mph speed zone on Orcas Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.
• A deputy on Orcas Island investigated 15 apparently abandoned vehicles at the Orcas Park-and-Ride. The deputy requested the impoundment of the vehicles.
Nov. 7
• A deputy was dispatched to a traffic accident in the San Juan Island area. The deputy arrived and located a single vehicle off the roadway. The investigation showed the incident had occurred the night before. A report was taken.
• Orcas Island deputies responded to a death investigation. The investigation revealed no suspicious activity.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a property damage incident in the Deer Harbor area. The incident was a civil matter, and the deputy learned that the party that created the damage was planning to repair the damage. The incident was documented.
• A Friday Harbor resident reported threats made by a neighbor. They spoke with a deputy, and a report was generated.
• A resident in Friday Harbor called to ask for deputies to check on their partner. Deputies contacted the individual and noted he needed no assistance. A report was generated.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a property damage report. A County vehicle was damaged, and the incident was documented.
• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a noise complaint at a local housing complex. A warning was issued for a noise ordinance violation.
Nov. 8
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 55 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Olga Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.
• A deputy responded to a mental health incident in the Friday Harbor area. A person was causing damage to public property. The person was already in custody and was evaluated for mental health issues. A report was taken.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding and driving a vehicle with an expired registration on Main Street. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for failing to renew expired registration greater than 2 months.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a domestic violence protection order violation. The deputy learned that the respondent did not violate the protection order, and the incident was documented.
Nov. 9
• Orcas deputies responded to downtown Eastsound for a report of trespassing. The subject was arrested and transported to the Friday Harbor jail.
• A San Juan Island man was arrested for an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to appear before the district court judge on a malicious mischief charge.
• A Lopez resident reported hit-and-run damage to their vehicle while parked on the property of a local business.
• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a dog bite complaint. The deputy determined the involved parties likely assaulted one another in contemporaneous but separate altercations. Neither party wished to pursue charges. The deputy completed an informational report.
Nov. 10
• A deputy on Orcas Island was dispatched to a possible hit-and-run collision. A report was taken.
• A deputy on Orcas Island got a walk-in complaint of a landlord/tenant dispute. The complainant was given resources.
• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to a report of a theft. The party reported that a juvenile female stole alcohol from a store in town, which was caught on video. A report was completed.
Nov. 11
• The Sheriff’s Office took a report of lost property. The incident was documented.
• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a barking dog complaint. A resident was contacted and issued a verbal warning.
