The Enchanted Quilters of Lopez Island are offering a chance for all San Juan County quilters to get together for a day of sharing, talking about their craft, and socializing.

The first annual May Gathering and Luncheon will be on Tuesday, May 13 at Grace Church Hall from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Transportation will be provided from the ferry and back. Anacortes quilters are invited too.

“The idea of the gathering is to get together with other quilters in the San Juans and share experiences and quilts and see what other people are doing,” said Annie Houston, co-president of the Enchanted Quilters.

Activities for the day include a show and share, free lunch, a lecture by Peggy Shafer from Sewers Dream Fabric Outlet in Burlington (there will be items available for sale), a nine-patch exchange, a short walk at the preserve, and a studio tour. Shafer, who has invented special quilting rulers and other tools, will discuss new products for quilting currently on the market and new materials for fusing. For the nine-patch exchange, bring 25 patches to exchange with someone else. The studio tour will be of Anne Dawson and Peggy Schuld’s quilting spaces, where they design and create their colorful, finely crafted pieces.

The Enchanted Quilters are a group of Lopez quilters who meet monthly and raise funds for Lopez Senior Services. They meet the second Tuesday of each month in the Lopez Senior Center (beneath the fire hall), and anyone interested in the quilting arts is welcome to attend. The group does not meet during July and August.

The quilters will be selling tickets for the raffle of two quilts at the Lopez Farmers Market all summer. The money will go to the Lopez Senior Center. This raffle is held every other year, so snap up those tickets for a chance to win a unique quilt.
