The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Aug. 9

• A deputy on Orcas struck a mailbox while backing up. Some owners of the mailbox were notified and the deputy fixed the mailbox stand which received minimal damage.

• An Orcas Island resident reported an incident of fraud while using a legitimate third-party website to purchase an aircraft engine.

• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of someone who brandished what appeared to be a pistol at the reporting party. The suspect was arrested and booked into the jail.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of drugs in Friday Harbor. Several items of paraphernalia were removed from a vacant apartment and entered into evidence for destruction.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 60 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction for speed.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 41 mph on Guard Street. The driver was issued an infraction for speed.

Aug. 10

• A deputy responded to a reported domestic dispute on Orcas Island. Through further investigation, it was determined no crimes had occurred and the parties voluntarily separated.

• A deputy took a report regarding a citizen dispute on Waldron Island. A response was made the following day and it was determined no crimes had occurred.

• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of lost property. At this point, the property has not been located.

Aug. 11

• An Orcas Island deputy was dispatched to a citizen assist call on Waldron Island. An informational report was taken.

• A Lopez resident reported a missing person who was last known to be off-island. A report was completed.

• An Orcas Island deputy was dispatched to a citizen assist call. A report was taken regarding possible fraud. The investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy responded to a single motor vehicle accident off of a private roadway in Eastsound. The driver had fled the scene. It was later determined that the driver did not receive any serious injuries. A collision report was completed.

• An Orcas Island deputy stopped a vehicle on Orcas Road. The driver, a visitor to the island, was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding 68 mph in a 40 mph zone.

• A deputy located a vehicle parked in the roadway in Friday Harbor. The vehicle was unoccupied and was towed.

• An Orcas Island deputy impounded a vehicle that was involved in the collision the prior evening. A report was taken.

• A deputy was dispatched to a suspicious circumstance in the Friday Harbor area. The person reported that they located footprints on their deck when they woke up. A report was taken.

• A driver was stopped for speeding. The driver was issued an infraction for 62 mph in a 45 mph speed zone.

• A deputy on San Juan Island stopped a vehicle for cutting through a roundabout. The driver was issued infractions for Rotary traffic island violation and no insurance.

• A vehicle was ticketed for disregarding the parallel parking-only sign at the Lopez ferry terminal.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 35 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction for speed.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 42 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction for speed.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 35 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction for speed.

• An Orcas Island deputy was dispatched to a found property call at the substation. The owner could not be located and the property was booked into the property room. A report was taken.

Aug. 13

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 56 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone and driving left of center. The driver was issued an infraction for speeding and driving left of center.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a person in crisis. Referrals were offered for the appropriate non-law enforcement service providers.

• A deputy on San Juan Island was dispatched to a report of found property. The property was booked into the evidence room.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to the substation for two garbage bags of wet clothing left on the front porch of the station. The clothing was unidentifiable and soaking wet. It was properly disposed of at the station.

• Deputies on San Juan Island were dispatched to a report of a domestic incident. One person was taken into custody for Assault in the Fourth Degree of Domestic Violence.

• An Orcas Island deputy authored an incident report regarding a property damage-only traffic collision that occurred on Market Street.

Aug. 14

• A deputy responded to a fraud call. An individual paid an Orcas business using fraudulent money. A report was taken and the information was forwarded to a federal agency.

• An Orcas deputy responded when a street sign went missing. Public Works was notified.

• Deputies on Orcas Island responded to a report of a possibly intoxicated person in a vehicle. At the time of contact, the person was not near their vehicle. The vehicle was legally parked safely off the roadway. The obviously intoxicated owner was provided a ride home.

• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of a domestic situation that had occurred on Lopez. The people involved left on a boat. Deputies looked for the boat and it was discovered that they went to Orcas. The investigation showed that a domestic assault took place and one person was arrested and booked into jail.

Aug. 15

• A San Juan deputy observed an individual with a suspended driver’s license driving a vehicle. The driver was arrested for Driving While License Suspended in the Third Degree and for a local warrant.

• Lopez Island deputies were dispatched to a suspicious call. It was determined to be an online scam. There were no losses reported and the incident was documented.

• A deputy on San Juan Island was dispatched to a report of a non-injury motor vehicle collision. A report was taken.

• Lopez Island deputies were dispatched to a Civil Order Violation. It was determined that no violation had occurred, and the incident was documented.

• A deputy on San Juan Island stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued an infraction for speeding 35 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• Lopez Island deputies were dispatched to the Lopez Sub-Station for an Order Violation. It was determined that no violation occurred because there was no active order. The incident was documented.

• Lopez Island deputies were dispatched to a German Shepherd tied to a tree the reporting party was concerned about the animal’s wellbeing. The animal was found to be in good health and the owner was contacted. The incident was documented.

• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a report of a naked elderly man at a public beach. Several witnesses were contacted and questioned. The witnesses expressed concern over the subject’s mental state. The subject was identified and contacted.

• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of a domestic. The investigation showed that it was a verbal argument only and no assault took place.

• Lopez Island deputies were dispatched to a domestic situation. It was determined that no crime had been committed, and the parties were separated. The incident was documented.
